Wow! I guess my plan to blame you for my failure at graphics arts is getting off to a rocky start. smile;)

The first thing I will do is copy them then put them in my box of special things.

Thank you so much Persidio

LOL

Blame me? Ha,,, LOL

Oh I'm tired so I forgot... about POVRay.. I did get the version for Maya.. they only had for Maya 7.0.. so not sure it will work with Maya 8.5... you could ask for help if you have problems..

here is the POVRay Gallery..

Awe,, that's so sweet~

You know they were just a bunch of old blank CD's laying around. But the content is good~ smile:D smile:D smile:D

I thought you'd like some odd's and ends. I did try to get a Demo of Lightwave wasn't able to find one for download.

Poser stuff can be used in Bryce and Daz..

What I suggest you do between now and then for starters... go back to the free shaders.. http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downloads/shaders/ They have pages and pages past the fish scales... also looks like lots of other Maya freebies on that site. Make folders and stay organized for everything you download... made text files with URL's so that you will know in the future where the goodies came from.

You'll be so busy when the CD's arrive that you won't have time to forage for goodies... so you may want to start tomorrow on that. You need goodies for Maya... Bryce and Daz... but Poser goodies should work for you with Bryce and Daz.

That sounds like good advice. I was reading about shaders yesterday.

I have not heard of POVray yet, I will look into that one too.

That's ok about Lightwave, that can wait. Their demo is time limited so I want to wait until I'm ready before getting that one. It will probably be quite a while before I get through what I have so far. I expect Maya alone to take considerably more time that I had with FF.

Hi Ahisma~

Quote
I went there, but I didn't see anything. I take it that this was a tube site?

Similar use as tubes... but for Photoshop. 1999 tubes were just getting started on the Internet.. Tube artists back then propably did get some of the .pngs for tubes... but I can't remember if PSP supports .pngs... they propably would have had to be changed to another file format.

Oh yes, site was closed in 2005.

.png's are propably only now popular with scrappers (digital scrap bookers)...

yes,,, like tubes...

I'm so tired I'm propably not making much sense...

Nite~ smile:D smile:D (((Ahisma thanks for letting us chat in your thread! smile:D )))

P.S. Ahisma I'll see if I can't zip them up and put them on my web space for ya' tomorrow (they are a collectors item and so much fun to have) smile:D

Hi Ahisma~ smile:D

Yep I'll wrap those later today. Guard them well~ I don't want them getting out on the web for download. If the owners of ominix wanted them be offered for download again they would have the site still going. They don't have a problem with personal use though and that's what they were intended for in the first place.. to create with. Okay to create with and then offer for downloads... don't offer as tubes though. Propably why they took their site down in 2005. smile:D

Thank you MysticBlueRaven I will sign up for that today.

I was looking at the textures and materials at kmkreations, I'm still not sure what the difference is, it seems like a big challenge is going to be how to give credit where credit is due. Do we just grab these textures and materials and never mention who designed them?
Is the difference that textures tile and materials do not? Are textures and tiles comprised of the same maps?

The difference bewteen material files and texture are one material files are directtly imported into bryce. As for as the texture files that is up to you weather or not you download them. I rarely download 2d texture file since I make my own and most likey you will to.
You can give credit to who you got the material files from if you rember where you got the from. I don't know if that is any help to you

Hi Ron~

Revelations will most likely want to start when his trail for FF runs out. ((He's trying to work his way to a free program))... We are not networked and no one uses my computer, so when his trial is out... it's out... no more FF for him. LOL

Which means we will have a head start on Maya...

Remember he uses AutoCad for a living and he's one of the best at what he does... so he'll be fine starting on Maya.

Make a folder called 3D Graphics Supplies on C drive.

In that folder make a folder called Textures...

In the Textures folder... make a folder for the name of the site... (make another one called Materials... and so forth)

download from that site into that folder.

Now go to Notepad... copy and paste the URL of the site. Save to the same folder as the materials and name the text file URL.

Years down the road you will always know where the texture came from.

I can complaint about this computer, my hubby got it free because they couldn't get it to run right. I got it up and running right now, and I installed an new graphic card and a 120gb slave drive. I just haven't had the chance to upgrade the menory. I am hoping to get 2 gb menory sticks for this computer. It will take me awhile to save up for it.
I was hoping to join the 2 of you in learning a new program, since I don't have the menory to run maya. I am out of the picture. I wish you and Jean the best of luck.

But ILM uses Maya... There is a Maya shop near where I live... When I checked the CafeFX website the only people they were hiring were Maya people... Maya has a non-expiring, watermarked, learning edition... I have not had much success with the limited trials... Confused

ILM also uses XSI, and many visual fx studios use modo, 3dsMax and Lightwave as well. Increasingly these days, pipelines are constructed around what the artist is comfortable working with, primarily because that's the efficient way to work.

So, in conclusion, I'm arguing that you might want to think about jumping onto the next-generation train rather than studying dinosaurs... smile;)

. I will start using text files instead of bookmarks and put all my backup and archive ducks in a row. It's a drag but it needs to be done

It is a drag yes, but a drag you will love yourself for. Not sure you have to clear a drive for it... LOL.. but whatever works for you...

Not saying you can't use bookmarks... the individual images from that site need the URL mixed in with them... and they need to stay seperate via images from other sites.

The ominix images are a perfect example of this... burned on a CD for backup with a ton of other stuff... everything in it's own folder... And sure enough Ominix images with their folder and their own categories from within the site... I didn't have to wonder where they came from.. and that was 6 years after downloading... it's a system that works and keeps you organized with your graphics supplies.. I promise. (Found them on a CD in my graphics trunk this spring 2007). smile:D

I have a My Graphics Supplies folder (these are graphics supplies I've made)... Graphics Supplies (Supplies for sites)... Graphics folder (images.. photos misc graphics stuff)... Graphics Programs (3D and 2D).. Web Tools (HTML and CSS stuff)... ect.. you get the pictures.. smile:D

I started making graphics in 1997 ( I seriously do not count the first year ).. which is why you always hear me say I started in 1998... the first year I had stuff all over the place.. no idea where anything came from and it was a nightmare...

I ended up deleting everything and started the system of organizing I now use today for everything on my harddrive.

Your graphics programs do not have to go into Program Files... Make a folder called Graphics Programs and put all your graphics programs there... fyi... big tip...

Gotta run BBL ((btw.. my filter forge program is in my Graphics Program folder... I never have to rummage thru Program Files folder for my graphics programs))
