Im going to do the unthinkable and actually try to drag this topic back to the filter itself
Had a freind that needed a good busted up concrete texture so turned him on to your filter --with out ever really usieing it my self --he needed it for a game texture. He noted a problem for game textures that I had not noticed before. shadows... The rebar shadown in 3d games that use normal and specular maps etc you really dont want to bake shadows into textures insttead you do it with normal maps etc.. So I tweaked it for him by adding a switch to turn off shadows and add rebar ties (pig tails to the joints) You might actually want to consider an option to turn off shadows for an update with this one..just an idea the effect is still incredible --Ill have to upload a pic from him with shadows off in the doom3 engine the rebar works great still
any how a fantastic filter lets all whine for a wine port

That's a great tip, Voldemort! I'd like to know how to add such a feature into any future filters with this too. Might you be able to share this tip, how and where to integrate it into one's filter? ~Foxxee~

Having never done 3d art this is excellent feedback, I'm going to have learn and understand the maps far better obviously. I'll will add the switch for the shadow Quote |

I had a fiddle with ties but couldn't get it to work, so I would be very interested how you did it.
Excellent voldemort

Foxxee plug in what you want to turn off and on into the switch component, add a checkbox, remap to 1 on and 2 off [ or vice versus ], in the off position make the colour transperent, plug in the switch to what ever component your original was being pluged into and walla you can turn on and off the effect

OH foxxee you can also use a intslider in the switch component which allows you to switch between 12 different input [ or remapped for less choices ]

You asked about 3d maps
diffuse map --this is a flat version of your picture from where the engine determines color
height map + bump map + normal map --a map from where it determines how light will interact with it to created depth and shadows
specular map---the way light will highlight and interact with it --you can use colored specular maps to give things a tint but they are normaly B+W for just light highlights
so you normally dont want shadows backed into you photo because the render engine will add them dynamically same with specular maps --it will do the highlights dynamically
its not to say you dont create a height map in FF yes you do but you leave the highlights and shadows for the render engine to provide
this allows for a lot of creativity
for instance since the diffuse and height map are seperate textures you can then animate them seperatly to get an organic feel
for instance I used a skew parm with rgb tables etc to give organic textures a organic movement feel and then add mathmaticall varation to the heightmap to look like its pulseing in 3d even though in reality it isnt
using the seperate stages gives you alot of power lets all whine for a wine port

Hi jffe, voldemort kindly pointed out about shadow and 3d application which addmitedly I know nothing about - so much to learn for a little brain - so I added a switch to turn shadow off & on
