I don't think he took it that way, Ahimsa. Sounds like he's tired too... been working on this one like a mad scientist ~Foxxee~

I just want to make sure he knows that I am not trying to insult him. Yes, he has been working like crazy on this one. I love it as is. I am still very impressed by it.

No no! of course not. I can tell you one thing, even if I could not have seen the effect you were talking about, which I could, I would have *believed* it existed anyway. I am not always good at things like that. But I think in this case it is a fluke of the lighting and background. It may be a bad idea to use the same hue for the background as the center. Thanks for your honest impressions.
Thanks ahimsa, Foxxee, and Craig (and everyone) you guys must be getting sick of this thread and looking at orbs. I will try to resist further driving people nuts. @ronviers

You could be right about the background being the problem.

Well, I fixed it and it still didn't go EP. I guess you will have to give me one of yours. @ronviers

I think it is due to technical merit and utility. Originality and pretty don't count for much. @ronviers

I think it's also that it covers a need or a competiters offering and isn't too slow, well construct and for textures is real looking real world - so it's a combination of many things that just hits the right cord

Searching for another different thing I found this cool and very well done filter. The orb is realistic and well done the effect and looks like real stone broken. This remembers me what Sharandra also wanted to make with his Geoda Crystals.
Here is something I have done

And this other one with a chrome finishing and lighting from above only and showing more the inside in another way
And making it seamless tiling is like many of them are there, and from this I got the idea that it could be rendered many of these orbs in different colors and put them all together one next to each other.

And this other one with a chrome finishing and more global light and making the opening not show the rock style, so it looks more like a thin steel sphere with a black coating inside and the glowing green liquid and orb

And using gradient color and more glow inside and less light outside

And here I have changed the color of center to yellow and the glow color to bright red and have tested activating or not the Ambient Occlusion to see what happens, and it depends of the effect you want, but activating it darkens the inside glow, but defines more the orb inside.
Here below you can compare which one you would like more, left is with ambient occlusion, and I have also added two additional lights

In the randomizer I came up with the Sith Eye. It looks like the Sith in a black hooded cloak.
In case anyone wants to replicate this, the settings are as follows:
Colors: top = 16D23B / mid = 604954 / bot = 322821
Color depth 61.55
Opening Roughness 28.32
Opening Thickness 19.17
Vary Opening 86
Check Box on for Blue Center and Add Base
Size, pixels 600
Variation 27680
Lighting:
Entrance, Day
Brightness 242.79
Saturation 12.05
Surface Height 48.57
