I could be wrong about this but it seems to me that, due to the bandwidth restrictions imposed by the web, the artist or designer needs to have a certain style in order to be successful - or at least there are some styles that are incompatible. Then again I consider less than 2.5Mb/s broken for anything except text or passing parameters. So you can imagine my attitude towards the current 56Kb/s link I am attached with currently. The pipe I would like to have to my audience would be 200Gb/s on the last mile and a thousand times that on the backbone. That would provide more reality than a blow-up doll. smile;)

I am hoping to avoid any work on the web. I will if I have to, hell I washed pots and pans for two years in college, but I would like to bypass it entirely if possible.
Of the packages you have coming I have only used Photoshop and Illustrator but they are both equal and invaluable - IMHO.

I set up an account on Youtube. I was just hoping to upload something to there. I have a domain, interboundgraphics.com, but I can't afford to set up a server.

I also found your very first test image interesting. I have the exact same image on my computer! smile:D (If I remember correctly, it is the origin of a river in Spain) smile;)

Anyway... Very cool! smile8)

I can't say. I don't know enough about what I am doing to even begin to know how it should be configured. I guess I'm at kind of a strange place right now. I can imagine using the domain in several different ways depending on how things unfold - each with substantially different prices.

leasing web sites can run from free, where you get maybe 10 gigs of space, on up. read the fine print! you want to particularly pay attention to any bandwidth restrictions and any penalties for going over that bandwidth.

here's a page you can look at for an idea of low-end hosting... and up: http://www.webhostingstuff.com/ these are NOT the only sites out there that will give you a pretty good deal. DO research this! there can be sloppy service sites, extraordinarily good ones, low bandwidth, metered, unmetered, come-ons, etc, etc, etc.

if you have a decent uplink speed and a dedicated ip number (your computer's address on the web through your isp), you might even consider hosting your own site. there are web servers you can install on your own computer, some even free. i was using Abyss web server for a while when i hosted my own site on my own computer. that was a free one and worked fairly well for a basic server.

Thanks Kraellin - that all sounds like excellent advice. When it gets closer to the time to make a commitment I will look closely at the webhostingstuff site you mentioned.

ah, it's spelled pomegranate. here's a site: http://www.pomegranates.org/home.shtml it's still not definitive if that's the fruit in the basket in that image, but it's close. persimmons, at least around here, tend to be smaller and green and yellowish. so, the color is right for a pomegranate and somewhat the shape.

no, i dont have a web site currently. i've had one or two over the years, including my own on my own machine, but when that machine died i didnt put the site back up. it was more an experiment and a simple way to let others get large files from me.

dont know why the site wouldnt display for you, carl. try it again? i know the link works as i just tried it again and it works fine.

No, but I'm now starting to think about it smile;) smile:) Craig's right.....you can set up free websites with limitted space.....have to deal with a flood of advertisements that you have no control over.....but could work just to get your "shingle" out there smile;) smile:)

I dont' post anything that I want to sell.....because I don't want it copied, ideas taken, capitalized upon by others, or undermined by potential buyers seeing it online (not one of a kind and 15 million other people have it). I sell all my works with all image "rights" included.....so they can reproduce it if they so choose and I can not.....which supports my asking prices smile;) smile:D I can post some early works that no longer have any value to me. These are drastically reduced versions of some of my first digital works.....

I heard from someone smart that you should lean CSS. I'm not sure what it does but it's supposed to be the bees knees.

My strategy is to only have ideas that are unattainable.

These look beautiful Steve - they must have taken forever to do. I like the second one best - the texture and colors are excellent. smile:)

Thanx guys, glad you like them smile:) They still have sentimental value to me smile:) I believe that I did them with the first or second release of Photoshop.....back in the days of the horse-drawn buggy smile;) smile:D They took forever to render.....large files even by today's standards. Reducing them to post here all but killed their actual color richness and detail clarity from the originals.....

Just for sheeeeots and grins.....this was my very first work of digital art.....I still like the liquid pixelation effect in the middle......but I don't know if it will show up after being reduced.....

I was just mentioning to Carl that some styles are incompatible with the web. I would rather send out DVDs or even thumb drives.
So much is lost that I am reluctant to say too much about your work because, for much of what matters, I would only be guessing.
Did the first Photoshop have filters? Have filters always played a big role in Photoshop? I had been working in Photoshop and Illustrator for about a year when I found FF - when I was looking for textures. I did not realize that filters were an important part of Photoshop, of course I noticed them but did not take them seriously, I thought they were gimmicky and useless. That's one of the problems with being self taught - I can go a long time with fundamental misunderstandings.

PhotoSop had filters for as long as I can remember. My "House Plant" work was done with layers and color manipulation.....but my "Plastered Flowers" was done with a stock filter that came with PhotoShop......

Yeah, gotta try them out for yourself......sometimes the samples aren't indicative of all the ways it can be used.......

A dumb guy had a good idea I got Zerin to copy Dreamweaver off the CD on to a DVD and then was able to install on my computer - so I'm getting her do the other 7 cd's onto DVD and walla I'll install them smile:D ......... I noticed Dreamweaver had the CSS as an option for set up so from your advice I'll use that as a starting point.... thanks Ron smile:)

The only thing I can really add to this conversation is that the fruit in question is definately a pomegranate. I eat them every fall and recognized the shape right away.

Now I will leave before Steve expects some kind of intelligent comment from me. smile:D
