Thanks... even though the displacement is not right.
I fixed that (with help from Uberzev) but the update hasn't been accepted yet. |

Hmm... is it already Easter?!
![]() Fantastic work, Sjeiti! Only... I just wonder why the diffuse map looks kinda odd... Is it what it should look like for such a filter? (Personally, I know nothing about render maps, that's why I'm asking.) |

The alpha is a little odd on the diffuse but beyond that looks good to me

Yes I'm a bit early, but since it's christmas and all I'll turn this into a Christmas ball filter as well.
But diffuse maps are for 3D right? It would be a bit silly to put this in 3D since you can just make an egg and map some pattern onto it. (hmmm... just noticed a glitch for angled stripes and scaling) |

sjeti,
excellent work! are you using an inputted image for the displacements or are you making everything within the filter? sorry, but my FF is currently not installed. had to wipe windows and start over, or i'd just take a look myself. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

thanks...
It's both now. There's some basic pattern creation in there but I didn't want to reinvent the wheel (that much) so there's also a checkbox to use an image as input. |

thanks, sjeti. i just think that's cool as hell.
and here's an idea for you. take your normal map on this one and save it off as a .jpg and convert it to an environment file in FF. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

sjeti,
just in case you didnt figure it out, or in case someone else wants it, it's very simple to do. you'll want a fairly small image, 200x200, 200x300, 200x400, 300x300, 400x300 and so on and so forth. the actual size can vary quite a bit. you can also go larger, but the import rendering time will go up proportionally. and trust me on this one, LARGE images can take HOURS, even DAYS to render. so, best to stick with smaller sizes. i also set the resolutions of my images to use for this at 100 dpi/ppi. this also cuts down the time to render. larger resolutions will obviously take longer and you really wont see that much difference anyways. once you have your file size and resolution and the image you want, save this as an uncompressed .jpg. i simply say uncompressed to keep the detail there and not because it's required for something else. in your windows file manager (windows explorer), manually convert the .jpg extension to .exr . that extension is what the import routine needs. it wants to see that or it wont do it. (i think it recognizes a couple other extensions as well, but i simply use the .exr since i know this works.) then, simply go to tools> import hdri and use the browse button to find your altered file and load it. be sure to set a name in that same window for your new environment/lighting file. hit ok and wait. on the image sizes i mentioned and with a decently fast computer, it shldnt take more than 5 or 10 minutes, depending. larger file sizes and higher resolutions will take much longer. also, a couple of tips: in FF if you look at the environment 'orientation' sphere, you'll notice you can only adjust this laterally, not up and down. so, when picking your images to use, it's best to use something with a more or less vertical alignment. let me explain that a bit. a simple example would be if you had an image of bars of various width and color. if the bars run horizontally, you wont see any change when you move the 'orientation' sphere. since the bars are aligned horizontally and the orientation is moving horizontally, the sphere is moving, but you wont see any change, since it's just moving along your bars laterally. but, if you were to rotate your image before importing, so that the bars were vertical, then you'd see some nice changes when you moved the orientation sphere. mainly, i find that the orientation sphere best makes better use of light than it does color. there's no problem with importing color images into it, but the differences in color are going to tend to be evened out or averaged out and you end up basically with a hue changer, which is much easier to accomplish with a hue/sat component. but, i've also gotten some nice effects too with color images, so dont negate them completely here. but mostly, you want images with interesting lights and darks and a bit of variation between the two. one of my best was a simple black and white where the white was nothing more than two sunburst/starburst blobs on a black field. anyways, these are very easy to do and can get you some very nice effects. i just wish we could export the environments along with the filters so others could have them too. i dont even know how the upload manager handles the presets if the preset was made with a custom .exr, but i'm going to guess it would reject them. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Congrats! No, question: did you just do the math in your head and know which ones are HU, or is there some special panel I don't know about that will show you at a glance which ones are HU without having to click on each one? |

You can see the total by clicking 'More' in the menu and then 'Your Reward Points'.
It doesn't say which though. |

now, this filter doesnt really need any promotion. it's already HU. but as i was flipping through filters today and noticed this one, i decided to play a bit. i had never noticed that it can use an image with it. cool! so, here's the easter egg done up with the 'woman' picture i use. this is in .png, so bear with me if this doesnt post how i want.
edit: yep, that's what i thought. it wouldnt display the transparency. it replaced that with white. ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
