I'm afraid your filters are getting a little too complex for my cheap computer to deal with.

This filter should be ok.
I have an old computer too: Windows XP, with 1 GB RAM memory. The graphic card is a standard one, very old too. It took 2 minutes and 32 seconds to finish to render the main preset. Maybe you can increase a bit the maximum RAM usage. If you click Tools --> Options , then the Rendering tab, you will find "Maximum RAM Usage, % ". It should be 60% as default. You can increase at 70%. It may speed up a bit. |

I cranked it up to 90. That should do it.

This is interesting, but isn't it a "texture" not an "effect"? For something to be an effect, I think I have to be able to discern the image someplace. I haven't found any combination of settings that lets me see the image I selected.

It is an Effect. You can see it here ( the lifesaver is used as image ) :
Preset 5 : ![]() Preset 7 : ![]() The filter uses two Mandelbrot sets, (1) and (2). You can add an image in the first set using the command "01 Use Background". You can switch between Image and Color in the second set using the command "02 Inner Pic/Color". The result is that an Image is added inside the Mandelbrot set instead of a simple color. I think I will make an update of this filter changing the two controls ( I may put only one with a different name ), so it will be easier to understand. About Texture vs Effect..... This is something that I also posted in this forum one time. The FF system works like this : - No Image in the filter = Texture - Image in the filter = Effect It generally works well, except with those filters where inserting an Image is not the main theme but only an option. In this filter, for example, the Image is not the most important part. We could say that it is a Texture with the option to add Images. I made also more complex filters ( still not uploaded ) where effects are applied on an Image ( splitting, coloring, etc ), like an Effect filter would do, but also completely different objects ( blades, circles, etc ) are created, like a Texture filter would do. Then all is blended together to give the final result. They don't fit in an Effect, because the aim of the filters is to create something new, not to simply modify an Image. They don't also fit in a simple Texture because the final result depends on the used image. They could be a third group of filters. But, for now, the library system would read them as Effects, because an image is used. You can see an example here : ![]() An Image is clearly used and, depending on the Image, the color and the look of the result changes. But we can't say that the Image is the main subject. It is not an Effect and not a Texture. |
