I have missed this filter, and is really great and lovely, like very much the beautiful effect of the well done and realistic 3D spheres, great effect, and like that they may many different random sizes and some big and others small.

The following suggestions are not maybe to be included in this filter, as maybe would be better to make a separate version, but I do not really know.

SUGGEST TO HAVE MULTIPLE PLAIN COLORS?

I have seen that this is only using only color for all the beautiful 3D spheres, and although this is good and gives a great effect, I could suggest and give the idea of have an option to make spheres with multiple colors, for example 3 or 5 different plain colors.

SUGGESTION TO USE IMAGES INSTEAD OF ONLY PLAIN COLOR?

After seeing this I may suggest a possible variation for another filter, and is to be able to use one image to wrap the 3D spheres instead of only a solid color. I do not know if this could be possible, or better said, if the image would look right after wrapped in the sphere.

Or even better have multiple images (for example five) on random 3D spheres

I have some examples with images to explain what I am suggesting

Image Ball Pit by Morgantao

And more shown here

Mix Inujima´s Ornamented balls with the Morgantao´s Ball Pit filter ?

If this filter could use images as shown here on these examples, then it would be even better and be able to have multiple images on multiple sized 3D spheres to give and awesome effect

Thanx everyone for your comments! smile:D SpaceRay. It looks to me that Inujima and Morgantao has already done such a good job with the spheres I can't see what else I could do. smile:?:

Hey DJI! I thought I'd kinda get down with SpaceRay's mini request. While I didn't do the photograph part, I just did the colorization part, also optimized the filter a tad bit just to simplify some of the chains going on. You should take a look at it, I think the mini optimizations are worth doing.

Here's the list of small changes:
1. I changed the way you alpha-masked the sphere. Instead of using Ellipse-->Threshold-->alpha, I just got rid of the alpha and handled the alpha with Threshold.

2. I don't know if this were cool with you but I removed the alpha channel node from the background color, given you can produce alpha via the color control. This is really a personal taste. I usually like to avoid redundant features, but sometimes doing what you did helps... also kinda like a nice quick remedy.

The rest are updates:

1. added that multi-color thingy. Currently uses the noise gradient but it can be any other type of gradient. I just... didn't put controls on it.

2. To correctly achieve the appearance, I had to alter the way your height map worked. Currently, your height was fed with the color channel directly into the height slot. This is generally ok, but when we got multiple colors, the filter needs a separate black and white height channel. Basic issue is that the colors have their own luminance values, so this affects the appearance of the bump. Most people don't care, but this sort of thing helps 3D artists get exactly the necessary bump map for their work. Unfortunately this also leads to a slower render. But this is really just a fun modification.

Very cool filter. Hope to see more! smile:)

Skybase, thanks for taking my idea, sorry that I can´t test what you have done and modified, but I think it may help DJI to make, of course if he wants and like it, another version of the filter.

As said this is just and only a suggestion, and you can of course decide if you want to do it or not, and if you like it, as it is your own filter.

Maybe I did not explain it correctly, you have done a better work because your beautiful spheres CAN change the size, and they are not all the same small or big size as the ones fr om Morgantao or Inujima, and also they have 3D lighting and specular reflections, as the others are just plain.

Your filter surely from my point of view have much more depth and can have more spheres shown with different sizes, something that is not possible on Morgantao filter.

The problem I see on your awesome filter, is that you can ONLY use just ONE color for ALL the spheres, so although the effect is very good, it looses versatility and missed the potential of FF to go beyond that

So I repeat it again differently and explain it in another way

SUGGEST TO HAVE MULTIPLE PLAIN COLORS?

Suggestion (maybe on a different filter) to have have an option to make spheres with multiple colors, for example 3 or 5 different plain colors.

I mean that could make the same that you can do now but using 3 or 5 (this only because of the FF lim it) custom choosen plain colors that would cover randomly the different spheres, so you could have more variety in the composition.

SUGGESTION TO USE IMAGES INSTEAD OF ONLY PLAIN COLOR?

Additionally, not only have only plain color, as the same FF color and image component also allows to have images too, and so the idea is to be able to use from 1 up to 5 images to wrap the 3D spheres instead of only a solid color, and so you could make even more beautiful combinations of different sized spheres with custom image textures that I think will look cool

I repeat the the main difference your filter have versus the Morgantao Image pit is the different sizes, and additionally have great specular and lighting shining on the spheres, so surely your filter is above the ones made by Morgantao, and Inujima´s filter is only to make ornamental spheres, ONE by ONE, and not be able to MIX them in the same image

Hey! Thank you both for all your suggestions. smile:D smile:D I'm definitly going to look into all of it. smile:) SpaceRay. Now I think I can better understand what you meant. I'm going to take a screen shot of your last post and see if I can follow it step by step to make a new filter. smile:D smile:D Skybase. I downloaded your source file. Nice! I can see what you mean about adding the other bomber and just using the threshold component instead of using the alpha component as well. I did however put back the alpha component for the background. I do it that way because i'm lazy. smile:D I also added a switch component so you can go back and forth from one color to multi-colors. smile;) Oh by the way. I tested the render time on both your default preset and mine and yours is 7 seconds faster. smile:D So,Thanx again Skybase and SpaceRay for all your help.

Well SpaceRay. Here's what i've got so far. This is the default preset of my first try at a multi-colored sphere filter. smile:) The main problem with this filter is that it's really slow. it took nearly 6 minutes to render and save this 800x800 rez image. smile:(
