Yes, Xirja is right. Looking at the preset previews, you would never guess the real result.

All mathematical considerations aside, this filter makes some really nice framing textures to be blended with other images. Because of the unpredictability of the result, it does take a lot of patience and experimenting if one has a specific result in mind. But all in all it is a useful filter!
