WOW!! Thanks very much for sharing this one, as I have been waiting much time since I have seen it on your own thread and although I tried much to do it myself I could not do it as awesome and amazing as you have done it.
Love and like it very much and is very well done. Will see more how to it works and will comment more. |

I have seen how is built and is very clever and well done, it can have awesome results, although I still could not understand how it works but I am trying to do it now
Is really amazing how the stars value adds additional stars overlay one on top of the other Please can you be so kind to explain what the “skip” do ? Why there are 7 skip ? I have seen that it removes parts of the stars and removes the center sometime I wonder why the “sides” values is limited to 16 ? I have tried to rise it to 48 but it seems that with some values is somewhat weird, will have to make more tests. I think that using this it could be done also the following designs, will see how to do them ![]() |

For last, what would be really cool and awesome is that you could be able to FILL with textures and color the inside of the shapes with FF itself, but I know that regrettably there is no fill component and nobody has been able to do it in all these years with available components
I mean like this example below ![]() |

Hi Spaceray, thanks for your interest. Nice inspirational pictures you found! I really like the third one from the bottom (the rainbow pen/marker one).
I explain how to use the controls in the filter description, although I understand that it is a little confusing. Sides is the number of points around the star. For example, a Star of David has Sides = 6, while a Bahai star has Sides = 9. Should I rename it to "points"? Stars is the number of shapes/stars. For example, a pentagram is made of a pentagon and a five-pointed star, so it has Stars = 2. The filter draws the shapes/stars from outer to inner (rounder to pointier). Skip skips the outer ones. Maybe I will submit an update to increase the number of sides/points, and also to use a transparent background instead of black. I wish this I could make this filter faster, it is very slow considering it just draws a couple lines! With 32 points and 16 star-shapes: ![]() |

YES! I also would love to know how to create & vary the fill color of each individual segment, directly within Filter Forge. Could it be done with a script (eg. moving one pixel at a time across the screen, and for each transparent "pixel" [or white, if it has a white background], find out if it's enclosed within non-separating lines, or a complete boundary area/test for a bounds area/etc., then if so, fill each of those pixels within that bounds area with a color (and if not, progress to the next "transparent pixel"). And then loop through the rest, varying the color of each segment, ignoring those already filled with a color? I have been going crazy trying to figure out a way to fill each polygon segment with a different color ...

The update is available, with the features I mentioned (increased sides/points, transparent background).
You can increase the max sides further if you edit the filter and figure out the little trick I did. ![]() To further tease, I came up with some alternate coloring methods, as shown here. Re Cato: Filling in shapes or "regions" has been requested often, especially because Filter Forge competitor Genetica has this feature. See forum thread from over 14 years ago (!) ![]() |

Indigo Ray, thanks for letting me know. I wonder if a different filter could be created using polygon shapes, like triangle, square, rectangle, etc. loosely based on the logic for the polygram, but maybe overlapping each other, in different colors, maybe using the kaleidoscope to create a filled polygon pieces result, that we can have some control over in terms of the shapes & colors used?

I bet we can do that, I will try to see what I can do. It's a good idea.
