I think the FilterForge download page could say "This filter requires Photoshop" I can't see a way to use it with the *standalone* Filter Forge programme because there is no way to make a selection, unless I'm missing something. It's a very nice idea though.

Well, if the filter needs a selection, you can simulate it in the standalone by loading a black and white image that would work as the selection.

You need to import your image that you want to modify and is showing inside filter forge
then go to File --> Open Selection and import the selection image

If you do not have the selection as a file, you can create the selection in any other graphic software and then save it, and open it as an selection in filter forge

To make sure the selection works, you must know that anything white reveals and black conceals. So in other words, when you paint with white inside of a selection, you reveal what is want to show, that is to say you show the contents of that image or selection.

Be aware that the selection must be a black and white file and with the same size in pixels as the image you have already open

So if you load a selection this filter will work without Photoshop, and will delete anything where the selection is black

As an example, here below is a black and white image to be loaded as
File --> Open Selection and import the selection image

And the source image that you can use for this example is

So using this filter with the two above images, the color one as source and the black and white as selection you will get this result here where
anything that is white in the selection will be removed as it is what you selected and what you want extracted and what is black is kept

So as said before above, in the selection, the white reveals, so it reveals what you want to be extracted and removed, so in this case what it does is shown here below

I have seen that this image extractor can be used also to remove and extract parts of any source image and also use that to mask and protect the filter you may want to use

So for example use the above one and only fill the white parts with the filter result
