Thanks StevieJ... (I think smile:D) but you beat me to my correction post to show what these presets really should look like, and DO, once you get them downloaded.

For some reason they came out looking lack lustered to what I have showing in FF after downloading them just now. Hope this helps to show what you really will get with this filter smile;)

foxxee, (going into simon cowel mode here) i like the looks of these, but most dont convince me of jewels. like, 1, 2, and 3 are nice, but dont really look like gemstones. there are internally too rough and the patterns only vaguely remind me of any stones i know of.

#4, 5, and 9 are much more what i would think of in gems. they have facets and cuts and the internal look isnt too variegated in height. and 9 looks the most like an actual gemstone.

so, whereas you do have some interesting patterns here, the name says gem and jewels and i'd love to see you refine this one more into the gem look and less of a pattern filter with a gem shape.

keep this one. that's fine. but another with more refined 'gems' would be great! we actually have very few gem and crystal filters.

(end of simon mode)

ok, all that being said, i do like these. very colorful, inventive and creative and they dont really all have to be exactly like real gems to call the filter a 'gem and jewels' filter. it would be fun to do a whole 'jewelry' filter, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, the whole sha-bang. who was it did a clock filter? i would think a 'watch' filter would be even more tricky.

and sorry about simon; i normally keep him bottled up smile:)

No offense taken, Craig smile;)

I think you are mistaken as to your full understanding of what the word Gemstone encompasses when it comes to rock minerals that are considers not only just 'precious' but also 'semi-precious'.

I'd like to share what I mean, not only for your consideration, but for anyone else that may assume 'Gemstone' means Diamonds, Emeralds, Sapphires; all those that are clear faceted beauties. But in fact, Jasper, Lapis Lazuli, Opal, Agate, Turquoise, Jade, Pyrite, etc. are all part of the 'gemstone' family too smile:)

I know it's a basic conception for most to think this way, so I just wanted to 'kindly' make the correction. Still, I do appreciate your input as always... thank you for your honest evaluation as you see it smile:D

#8 looks like a crazy amethyst stone. You might update it to make them look a bit sharper edged, or make a new filter that is simplified in look, but that creates more of that cut-edges look that gemstones used in rings have. Just an idea. smile:)

Thanks for your imput, jffe smile:)

Yes, I am still 'fiddling' around with this one for that reason and at the same time trying to keep the 'carved' gems from looking too sharp smile:-p

This was a challenge for me for sure, but quite fun and something I can and will use for my own artistic artwork projects, hehe.

By the way, for the record, I would like to welcome anyone's comments and suggestions. And by all means, if you beat me to it... please do! I am a bit lazy too, jffe, so no matter who might feel they'd like to take any of my ideas a little bit further or in another direction you are more than welcomed to do so. I am not a competitive soul smile;) I love the vast variety of filters Filter Forge offers, and for Vlad to set up such a great place for all of us 'wanna-be's is more than fantastic. I mean... who else does that, other than FireFox (which is another user-friendly program I am quite involved with smile:D

Hehe, well I can try... I'm always playing with a test version of my own filters.
But if someone else beats me to it who seems to be more talented when it comes to cut glass and such, more kudos to them if they do smile:D

Good work on this difficult filter Foxxee but yes I've got a suggestion too, some different shapes for the gems would add to the filter - Voldemort has a snippet called " Shape Bonanza [ Snippet ]" which maybe a way to do hexagonal etc shapes smile:)

Glad you like them too, Ahimsa. Maybe you could make some up as Tubes for adding to a 3D metal band smile:D

Hi Carl smile:)
Thanks so much for the suggestion!

I've been wondering if/how I could use those 'Snippets' to help enhance my filters but have been a bit shy about whether I could or should. On top of that, I wouldn't know how to incorporate them into my filter.

It sounds like fun, and I took a peek again and saw the hex shape you speak of. Yes, that would be a great shape to use smile:D An oval and diamond shape would also be a nice addition. Goodness, now my brain is wide awake again with all these new ideas and I was going to try and get some sleep last night too.

There sole purpose in life is to be - copy and pasted or reassembled to improve or allow the growth of ideas - some people like a little tribute in the by line of the filter smile;) smile:)

OH! Thanks for letting me know this smile:D
I sure will give credit to whomever made the 'Snippet' if I can figure out how to get them in and work with them without breaking 'em smile:hammer:

I think that's what someone should call the forums, or start a Filter Friends Anonymous area where we can go incognito and tell all our little secrets such as staying up WAY past my bedtime, forgetting to eat, playing with that random button more often than talking to my family... errr, guess I should have saved that for my first post, huh. Guess I just told on myself now smile;)

Working now - I've taken Voldemorts snippet and simplified out one shape range - if you want to restrict the shapes -adjust the remapping on the spokes. Obvious cause of my simplification it's got my name on it - the credit is Voldemort. If you choose to use it not, either way it's totally cool - if nothing else you may understand how I choose a set of parameters and got rid of everything else, so you could choose a different shape set from the original snippet and modify it in the same way - also put the final snippet shape through the kalidescope to get other varieties smile:)

anyhow hope this is of help

I really like this filter, but a few things I'd love to see in (the next version? smile:) )
-the ability to change the size of the stone (yep, right up to the preview frame edges thingie)
-the ability to increase the number of facets and bevels (unless that is currently available and I just need to play more to find them)so that stones can take on a realistic appearance (like diamonds and rubies that I will only ever dream of ever owning)
-the ability to change the shape of the stone (square, pear, round, etc)
-the ability to telepathically change the stone from FF to real and on my hand. I understand that may take extra time to work out... I'm patient.

overall, lots of fun, great filter, thank you so much for sharing your talent smile:D
