Hi Guys - First can i say thanks for your interest and coments they really are appreciated.
![]() Kraellin (Craig) As the texture was intend to simulate small Mosaic tiles i decided not to include sizing controls to enlarge the tiles - so i decided to leave the sizing of the mosaic to FF,s standard pixel control - which will only reduce them. Also this kept down the amount of user controls. However - You can (if you want to) conect 2 Interger slider controls to the Repeat V & H in the Tile modules. You will have to conect each slider to both the tile modules to work them in tandem. Or you can go directley into the Tile modules and set the V & H paramters manually. Hope this helps To learn is Gods purpose of life -

ok, thanks, mikita
![]() just a thought on those extra controls... i know the trend is to limit controls, to try to keep it easy for users and to limit the amount of effect in any one given filter and that's fine, except for one thing; because any filter in the library is subject to being altered by anyone with the program, my tendency is to put as many controls into a filter in anticipation of the end user needs and wants so that they wont be tempted to alter the original filter, thus ensuring that the original gets used and therefore goes into the usage stats which in turn accumulate towards granting high use points. edited copies of filters put the editor's stamp on the filter, not the original author. therefore, if one is using an edited copy, the usage stats dont get counted for the original author. Kraelin - Thanks for the tip Craig - Its a bit naughty of FF that.
![]() I will bear it in mind with the next filters etc. Thats if im able to design and submiit another, as my free trial periods of FF are over in 2 weeks and i probably wont have enough filters submitted (what with having to learn as well as earn so to speak) to aquire enough stats to recieve the free copy of FF. ![]() Thanks again - Mikita To learn is Gods purpose of life -

well, it also works the other way around too... put in too many controls and the user is liable to edit and remove some
![]() ![]() just contact the FF team via the contact button here in the forums for an extension on the demo time. you can get two, 30 day extensions if you request them, and of course, if FF grants them. but that's been fairly common for them to do so with folks that are actively participating in the forums. As you say Craig, makes you wonder which way to jump - i must say im amazed that someone can poach your filter make a couple of changes and they get the gredit - makes one wonder about FF,s ethical codes
![]() However i have now looked at my last 2 textures and can see a distinc benifit (which i overlooked) for puting the size controls in - so have now modified same. Thanks for your advise and sugestions Craig - much appreciate it. ![]() PS i think i might have used up my trial extension periods as i have had FF for 2 months - but as you say it might be worth a try ![]() To learn is Gods purpose of life -

no, it's not that they can poach and get credit; it's that you dont get the credit because they wind up using their version. they'd have to submit it to the library to get credit for usage and that would be caught as a plagerism if it were too much the clone. so, the risk is in not providing what's truly needed and wanted in the filter or in providing so much as to be worthless and unusable.
it might be nice if there were some sort of 'tag' embedded in a library filter that even if it were altered directly, it would carry that embedded tag in the edited copy and give the usage stats to the originator. but, as far as i know, that doesnt exist, yet. snippets would benefit from such a tag also and snippets need it even more than a normal filter. and, to my way of thinking, i think it's one of the great plusses that FF can open up other author's filters and that we can 'borrow' some of those ideas and algorithms. yes, i know 'borrow' is tantamount to 'steal', but in the case of filters i dont mind 'stealing' an idea if it will make a good filter. i also dont mind giving credit to the person i 'stole' from, either ![]() and re the extension, it only hurts if you dont ask ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
