I guess this is for 3-D models or something (I am not into/aware of all that stuff), but I just think it's pretty clever/cool anyways, even though I'll never use it myself. smile:)

Yeah, it's mostly for texturing cigarette models, though it could be used for 2d stuff as well. I hope someone finds this filter useful.

I can see this one in second life texture stores already, as in someone that uses Second life busy rendering pictures from it to sell.
Nothing wrong with a little insanity ;)

this filter raises an interesting question i've had re 3d stuff and textures. is it preferred that textures be unrolled and flattened out like this one, or would it be better to have the texture as an already rolled cigarette?
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

It depends on how you are mapping your object. Some geometries are easier to texture than others. But generally, you need your texture to be 'unrolled'. Think of it as wrapping paper...

I think it might be more of a case of Craig prefers his cigarettes already rolled smile:D

This of this as a cheap version of making your own cigarette papers to roll your own.. smile;) Although not sure what it would be like burning regular paper with ink printed on it.. um..

I was think about adding a "rolled" setting to the filter, but I really hadn't needed to...

Myendless, what I did is create a filter that did both and add a toggle switch. See my "column" filter. The thumbnail shows the cool 3dish column (which is actually quite useless) and once you're interested, you can see the presets which are ready to wrap and use in 3d.

Great idea meyendlesss. Nice render, I like the smoke, did you comp that in or is that Blender particles?

I did it using a plane with soft-body enabled...
There's a tutorial out there that will get you pretty much the same thing.

Basically you take a plane...
Weight it so it sticks in one corner...
Then add wind blowing up...
There's some tweaking involved to get it to look ok.
I've improved since I did that render.
If you end up needing help feel free to ask.
Maybe there should be a thread somewhere for FF + Blender.

So most of the texture is transparency? What did you use for the smoke?

I do not know if Blender would be a 'general discussion' topic or an 'off topic' topic.

I would love to do this.

The course would be interesting.
If you have the time it is possible to learn quite a lot and it won't cost you anything. I'm sure you'd learn an awful lot of cool stuff in that course though.
