Sphinx.

Ah I knew it! You use motion blurs to create a horizontal distance transform like output - excellent! You should publish a snippet fully dedicated to the depth map part of the filter..

and for some rather amazing examples of this filter, check out this thread: http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...#nav_start

Hehe. The most obvious solution, of course.
Thinking about it. Question is, is it too abstruse of a subject without the full filter? You will only need it if you are using a pre-made (outside of FF) profile. The method for an internally created profile is simpler. |

Sphinx.

Well, the snippet would ofcourse have to use an internally constructed "demo" profile, but I think it would be rather useful with the boiled down version that only creates the depth map. In that snippet you can concentrate on getting the best result from various profile types (varying thickness etc). |

+1 on publishing a cleaned up/boiled down snippet!

Snippet submitted.
One thing that may not be obvious is that if you create the profile in FF, you don't have to go through all these hoops to do the lathe operation, it is a simpler deal. (Of course, creating the profile in FF may not be...) Do we need another snippet or two to demonstrate how it works from an internal profile? You can create an internal profile with gradients and curves, for instance. |

Another fun thing to do would be to make a version which revolves around the z-axis. That would be equivalent to looking at this shape from the top. Would be good for car tires, clock faces, toruses (donuts, hoola-hoops!), plates and such.
I think I just talked myself into doing it... (so many ideas, so little time!) |

Okay -- lathe from internal profile snippet coming up.
