Gotta say I love it! But it's very very slow. I took a look at the inside and there are various things than can be speeded up. I'm still untangling the actual 3D part, I can't help but feel it can be way faster. This must be possible in just one offset. I'll get back to you when I get my head around this stereogram technique. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the left side is just a repeated pattern while the right side is a repeatedly offsetted pattern. Two things that you can speed up already: I have no idea why you use a circular gradient to create a sphere, but that can be done much faster/easier. Plus I've attached an easier way to create a cube. Perspective cube.ffxml |

Well, I couldn't figure it out completely...
but I did manage to get it faster. Single Image Stereogram _ clean_VI.ffxml |

But they do slow your filter down.
Your default preset takes about five minutes to render completely, and that's mostly because of the anti-aliasing (1:45 without). The spin-off I posted takes about 40 seconds (12 without anti-aliasing). That is about eight times faster. I not only re-routed the cube and sphere. First I removed all 'redundant' components, among which was a Refraction component (those are slow). Then I replaced most Threshold-Blend combinations with a single Threshold. Read the wiki page Optimizing Filters for Speed. Then I made the pattern so that it will always tile correctly on the lowest surface (with Seamless Tiling turned on). You're free to do whatever you want of course. But with a 800% speed increase I'd consider an update ![]() |
