This is honestly very impressive! It works like a charm and it's very realistic.
Just as an idea, you should also try tarnish as well. Gorgeous filter ![]() |

Thanks! I'd love to see some of the stuff you do with it.
Skybase, what do you mean by tarnish? You mean like shiny metal, like silver, with darkened, smudgy bits? Like a copper or bronze statue? I was messing around with making the rust more 'streaky' and as if caused by water, but it didn't look all that great... too random. (Keeping fingers crossed for 'wind blur' in FF2.0) There are some pics of what I was using this for in my 'junkyard' thread: CLICKY! I think I'm making a series of heightfield-input based filters. (Along with Bling-o-Tron, stonhenge, and so forth.) ![]() |

pretty cool, corvus. how about adding some flakey bits or incorporating some of the effects from filters like cracked paint and that line?

Very nice. Only thing I would like to see would be a control to shift the color into the green range so you could have a patina like on the Statue of Liberty.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I wanted to allow people to use the randomizer. (I guess it could just be an either - or toggle.) |

Possibly? I have nVidia SLI GPU's... is it something I need to force or will it happen automatically? I'm hand painting the rusted/filtered layer and setting a low feather for the magic wand to get that random scraped look. Most of everything else you see is a brushed on effect.

Oh, as a hand painted thing it looks great. What I was saying is that they look like the scratches from Nvidia's most fine texture pack: http://developer.nvidia.com/object/IO_TTVol_01.html

Started making elements for web design/poster design for bands, etc using this filter. The designs are created in Illustrator, finished in Photoshop.

Hey, cool Thrash!
What would you think of a similar filter, but with more polished steel and rust? Like the mythbusters logo. Kind of like this: ![]() Btw: I just picked up the Digital Juice. It's a huge library of animated vectors. (you can also just render them out as psd or AI files, too) They had a nice 2-for 1 sale going on. http://www.digitaljuice.com/products/...sp?pvid=23 |

What would I think? What do you think I'd think??? I'd eat that up like free candy! That's incredible and I could use it. I'm tired of layering rust filtered effects on good metal and mixing and overlaying and blah blah blah....
Are you close to releasing a filter like that? If you want another set of eyes testing and tweaking, I'd volunteer to help! Thanks for the heads up on the vectors, I will check them out, I'm always on the hunt! |

Did a set of icons for someone's webpage, this example was one I really liked using "Rusterizer" to make a Furl social media icon. Went for a crackled baked enamel look that is starting to decay. Click on it to see it's correct proportion, for some reason the forum is distorting the graphic.

I really like this filter. Took some doodles and used the filter. It reminds me of the copper art work they used to sell in a kit where you would press the copper into a plastic pattern.

Corvus is the man (well, one of them around here anyway) that comes up with the truly useful filters that allows you to transform the 2D into the 3D.
I'm waiting for a copper version (hopefully with patina slider). |

Aw, shucks! Thanks folks!
I'll think about that copper one, Thrash. You know, the bronzerizer is not far from copper - would just take a little bit of adjustment. |

Hey Thrash,
What filter did you use to make those crackled baked enamel textures? |

Not filters, brushes, sorry. I take a 2D icon logo in black & white, use the rusterizer on it to get a steel 3D version. Select the areas I need to color and keep those on separate layers. Once I get all the layers created and colored, I merge them into one layer and then use a cracked brush set on clear to make cracks where you can see through the "paint" and the steel below it. About 50% clear will make it see through all the way, 25-35% will make that crackled look even a bit better where it appears the paint is still intact, just cracked.

Glad you like it, Thrash!
You know: i've been toying with the idea of using the new FF directional blur node to revisit this filter, give it more of a directional weathering look. (ie streaks of rust, etc. based on height) Would that be useful? |
