Very nice! Nice use of threedee's filter.
![]() What if you could somehow add shadows to the leaves so the ones on the bottom would be darker? This adding of depth would make this more realistic. |

Oh that's an excellent idea, I'll have to play around with that as an option. I'll admit first though, that it's a fairly slow-rendering filter as is, even though I did regretfully axe the height input, as well as some of the finer controls that ThreeDee originally included, to make the user controls a bit less complex. Would the best method be to blur an invert of the alpha, offset and blend somehow? I think adding back in a blur (I took one out already) would probably slow it down significantly. Any further suggestions are welcome!

Yeah, actually I did pretty much what you just said with the blur, and it looks great, slow but not too slow, only the shadow gets cut off, which is annoyingly visible in the bomber. But see what you can do!

Hmm my first few tests with adding a shadow have failed. I must be approaching it wrong because the outer edge of my blurred inverted alpha fades to white once it goes through the bomber. I'll look at some more filters with drop shadow tonight to see what might be causing that, but I wanted to post an update. I'm also dying to beg you to share the secrets of that fur filter you posted a screen shot of in another thread. How did you achieve that awesome layered look?

For the shadows, use a threshold (shadow color at some transparency and at full transparency). See my example. Not great, but a start.
Dammit someone asked about one of my secret filters! ![]() Here's a hint: Use a bomber and experiment with the blend modes (check out lighten and darken). Leaf Pile w_ Shadows.ffxml |

Oooh, that looks really nice, but urgh the darned stem reappears in the wrong place from the offset. If there's a way to prevent it from wrapping I'll post an update to this including your shadows!

Here's my take on the Shadows, it eschews an actual "drop shadow" style offset, because of realism issues, it would get rotated every which way in the Bomber. The maximum Blur radius, Minumum radius, and scale are carefully tweaked to prevent any wrapping or cutoff of the shadow. Oh, and it needs an extra control in there for the Shadow's Color.

That's gorgeous tigerAspect, I agree! I love how you've prevented the wrapping. Unfortunately the use of free rectangle and scale make it no longer tileable though. I sure wish there was a way around that!

Really? Throwing everything though Bomber should have re-enabled the seamless tiling checkbox... I'm not at the system I have FF on so I can't check, but see if you can enable the checkbox.

Aha! Yes, you can re-enable the checkbox! I had forgotten that effect of the Bomber. Thank you for the reminder! Lets see if this works:

Grats! you have won the monthly optimization lottery
![]() Cleaned up things a bit and added a few optimizations (18 mins -> 3 mins on my ancient single core AMD). I'd be happy to hear what numbers you get (old vs. new) I changed the hue variation part (so it uses the bombers built in tint system) - you can of course just set it back to the old one if you don't like it.
