thanks for noticing it:) there was a time when this would have been considered a really good filter. but now the quality of the library is so high it barely rises to the level of average.
i have an update in the works that will allow for just the nebula. so it can provide color and luminance information for fluid sims. i have been trying to nail the effect from ‘thor’ - the nebulae flythrough during the end credits. made the movie worth watching.

Ron, someone asked me what was my favorite part of the movie, and I said the nebulae at the end. smile:D

As for your filter, it's pretty and all, but the nebula just isn't complex enough. I know, it's hard to represent a gaseous volume with a 2d program, but you're right, FF still has a great potential to make more realistic nebulae.

i am hoping to use the texture just to get things started and let maya’s fluid dynamics add the complexity. i have just started learning fluids so i am not sure how to approach it yet. i am open to ideas if anyone has any:)
it looks to me like the effect is primarily a camera move through a static scene of many fluid containers. there is quite a bit more going on, like motion blur and some animated fluids, but i can treat those things separately.
if i make any headway i will mention it in this thread.

thanks:D
