Sorry I appologize since it was intended also as an introductory post I figured I would place it under general discussion. Ill pay closer attention in the future to proper placement of my posts.

But I would like to reiterate to everyone that I truly do want your feedback into what I need to change
Thanks

voldemort, since you did clarify a bit here and say you want "everyone's" feedback, I'll say something. And I'm saying this as constructive criticism. You seem to submit several minor variations of the same filter, when you could just take an extra day or two and add some more controls and flesh out your original idea. (Something I was almost guilty of myself until I calmed down, and got more critical of what I was doing.) And secondly, maybe go for some more kind of umm, obvious concepts, like something that is specifically useful for an application. (Another thing that I personally am working on, that and making my controls more user friendly.) You seem like a hard worker, and a very productive person, I know I just like seeing more "complete" filters, rather than several variations on an idea ya know. I think you are capable of focusing on a concept and making some really good filters, but you do probably need to consolidate the ideas more and really make them versatile and unique. Hopefully that made sense. smile:)

No offense taken That's exactly what I wanted to here --one thign you will see in the most recent crop over the past couple days is way more controls probably to man as many as 20-30 with 20 pressets on each to help people with a start and then fine tune the direction
My main problem is really a lack of full understaning of the mechanics at this point But even though I lack greatly in skill I allways have had the practice that anything I discover I imediatly share with everyone else. In fact all the game assets Ive ever made come with no strings I clearly state that credit isnt even required just that they have fun with them. My concept in releasing the more simplistic variants is so that maybe someone can take a portion of it and use it like a snippit. My other two main detractores are related to another point you made the ui and naming. I need to tackle better naming conventions for both the filter and the controls so that they are more intuitive. As is I may be the only person on the planet that understands my controls. I plan on addressing this with future versions once I feel Ive mastered the mecanics of the editor sufficiently.

I realize the fact that Ive only been at this about two weeks probably shows very bad, and I appologize for my defficencies , as I stated earlier I plan on addressing theese issues once I feel somewhat competent. I agree with the more usefull filters but as I tentativly explore the software Im branching out in as many directions as possible and then trying to blend ideas this is still in the WAY early stages so it will probably be awhile before I truly get my legs in the mean time I hope someone finds some
use
enjoyment
or some tidbit of knowlege from my efforts.

I released a bunch of new filters today 10/19/2006 so hopefully will appear tommorow
as far as more controls just remember you asked for it because some of them are almost ridiculous in their controls and versatility
there are some that have quite a few switches indeed just for one facet of the filter
But please before you go trying to track me down to axe murder me for the jumble of controls and lack of good naming conventions just remember I just got started Ill address theese issues soon. Right now my real focus is primarily functionality
again thanks for the feedback

----http://www.filterforge.com/filters/1370.html <----Wow, umm that one is maybe a case of the reverse of what I was saying above. I don't mean to pick on you or anything, but man, that is just way too many controls. I put about 7-10 on mine usually, and I know that for the most part, that is too many. That filter might've been one that could've branched off into 2 or 3.
----Tell ya what, here's my perspective on Filter Forge, like my wide-view if ya will. This program will probably be released either before x-mas, or shortly after the new year, really soon in other words. And there's going to be the need for some very easy to use, and very specific functioning filters. They seem to have a pretty wide list of categories here, but there's no way they are going to release this program and expect customers to search through 1000+ filters, they are going to have to drop it down to 200 or so. Best of the best if you will.
----So 2 things you should think about 1) do you want to earn a free copy ? (of course you do, we all do man), and 2) is my filter (you should ask/think this each time maybe) different enough, easy enough to use, and of the kind of quality that I (you in this case) would pay money for ? Because ultimately, that's what's going to sell the most copies of FF, not to uber geeks like us who make the filters, but to people doing graphic arts who can afford $200-$300, and want specific, easy to use filters that give quick and excellent results. That is how I look at it. It is not a race, and it is not a free for all, at least not for long. I doubt I've done more than 1 or 2 yet that will make the final cut, if any, but after thinking about the situation, I think I know what they will be looking for, and I know what I want. I want to earn the free copy of FF, and I want to make filters that people will find useful, and that will end up making the final release cut.
----My best advice to you, is the same as before, consolidate your filters. Cut them down control-wise and range-wise, and make them as unique and good as they can be, then resubmit 10-15 version 2's, the best of your best filters. There's no reason we can't all earn a free copy of FF and get to have our filters in the final release. But I just doubt they're going to post 1000+ filters and expect paying customers to try and dig through them all to find a gem ya know, and lastly, this is all meant in the best possible way, I have no reason to want you to not make the final cut too. Peace. smile:)
