This is one of those filters that cannot be demonstrated well in FF. With the limited possible backgrounds available you can't really see what it can do. It is so simple and useful. Why didn't I think of it? There are a lot of sketch filters in the library, but this one gives you the chance of using the sketch as a design element .... Here is my first use ....

When I saw this filter I thought this could be usefull.
Then I saw your examples. WOW! This filter is much better than I anticipated! Your first guitar looks like a laser etching on wood. The second one looks like it was stenciled on a wall. The third looks like an engraving on wood... So many different looks, and they all look good, as if that's what the filter was designed to do. Very nice examples, Gene. Very good filter, Mardar! |

I think I was a bit the same " looks interesting", but seeing the examples really show the quality of the filter ....... I wonder if it would be possible [ on a switch ] for the filter to also do the opposite, so to speak, where the B/g is line drawing and the object is solid

This can be a very interesting filter and useful for making compositions and designs and combine the results. And also you could have the results from 4 different photos and then combine all the 4 to make a new weird complex black edges wireframe design
Congratulations Gene S Morgan, nice and good examples you have put here, they show much better how the filter can be used. |

Thanks Morgan .... The background is Sixties Swirl by Kochubey with mardar's sketch applied. I like it to.
SpaceRay ... I agree this filter is very useful ... It really shows how a simple filter with 7 nodes and 4 controls can be something most anyone can find a use for. It doesn't have to be rocket science. A guy just has to have a creative mind like Mardar ... I didn't mean she's a guy. That's just the way I talk ...... |

I didn't get to give any instruction on this filter before my parents got sick, but I see I didn't have to worry because Gene saw right away what I was up to with this one. Great examples and instructions on what this filter is made for Gene. You even taught me something about the images being different sizes. I didn't explore the image input that well to realize you can fill or tile different size images to make them fit. (Mardar slaps her forehead and calls herself dummy)LOL Any-hoo... This is what I wanted to do. As Gene pointed out there are a lot of sketch filters out there, but I wanted to be able to see instantly how a background would look with the sketch over it without leaving FF. I could change the background quickly and get it just right before I rendered.
Gene thank you so much for the examples and your praise. It was hard, as you said, to show what this filter can do with just the built in images, but you got it right away. ![]() Oh and Gene I love how you talk. ![]() |

A couple of examples I made.
First a word cloud over a fabric look background. The word are from Poe's the Raven. ![]() And one with the threshold set low to produce sort of a reverse sketch. Also I used a larger pixel size to make it thick. This is the flower that Gigi made for me as the sketch. ![]() |

Gene, I love especially your first guitar and I wonder from what filter come from the background you have used on this one because I love the effects it gives ![]() Mardar said :
Strange ! I did the same thing without knowing you did also it. I used your Patterned fabric mixed with Painted on boxes Gene's filter and GF Wrinkled Fabric v2. ![]() visit https://gisoft.ca |

Mardar ... Gigi ... I obviously did not scratch the surface on this filter. You both came up with ways I hadn't figured out yet. It is hard to keep up with you smart ladies ...... Gigi ... That texture on my first guitar was Fiber Board by Crapadilla ....

I love the word cloud shrouds! Only thing I would change would be to give it some more space around the edges

Gigi your examples are awesome as always. Love the photo on the background. That looks like that great snow photo you have used before. The birds are really elegant looking. I love them all.
![]() Gene keep running you'll get here. ![]() Morgan I just threw these examples together, but you are correct. It would look better if I had spaced it out better and adding a frame would have really dressed it up. ![]() |
