The leaf is from a rose bush....The bug from back to front is about a 1/4in in length and very fast...

I took a quick look at your deviant gallery. We have the same taste in photography smile:D

I see you have a finepix S2940. Couldn't find much info about it though (fujifilm.com and fujifilm.co.uk both didn't have that model). Can you tell me how it compares to the finpix HS30?

Here you go...fujifilm-finepix-s2940
I have never used the HS30 so I really can't say how they compare in image wise...But the HS30 has some cooler features....So I would say the HS30 would be the better buy...But I am still liking the s2940 since I finally finished adapting all my Diy lenses and filters.....
However there is also one big feature I do like on the HS30 and that is you can save the image in raw format...Which the 2940 you can only save images in jpeg..(bleech)...

Tell me more about the DIY lenses and filters.

I enjoy macro photography very much, but my subjects usualy don't like the camera stuck to their faces... My dream is a good DSLR with a good macro lens, but the 1:1 macro lenses can cost you an arm and a leg, and a 5:1 (insert drool here) lense can cost you both kidneys, a lung, a heart, your cornias, hair, eyelids, gull bladder, 6 toes and 8 fingers. At least in my financial situation for the last 34 years. smile:(

Ahh..Lets see now...I will get some images together for that...But heres some of the lenses that I use...btw Check around re-sale shops, yard sales and maybe even some pawn shops might have these cheap....Don't pay more then a 20 for one of these....
Projector
Rip it apart and you can use the main lens as a macro...Either place in front of your cameras lens and snap images or as I did and modify some tubing to fit your camera and lens...You might have to do some experimenting to get the right distance between the camera and macro lens.....When you take this projector apart there are also some round glass parts in there....These are real fun to use in front of your camera lens...
Another lens that is kinda on the cheap that I use and here is an image I took with this lens....
Standing Bee
Is the front lens of binoculars....Sometimes you can find these on the cheap as well...The front in some cases is screwed on so you can just grasp it and twist it off...Some of these have glue on them so you have to twist hard.....Make sure you take off the the part that is connected to the body of the binos...
Binoculars
The cool thing is you do not need to be real close to the subject and scare the heck out of it...That helps when snapping images of wasps...Mind the Stingers smile;)
The only filtered image I have right now is the filter for viewing the sun...

In this neck of the woods we don't have any real re-sale shops smile:| no such thing as a yard sale smile:( and no pawn shops smile:cry:
The closest thing we have is a flee market, but that's nowhere near where I live...
To make things worse, almost no one here has a garage or a shed to work in or store shop ecuipment. I always read online tutorials of how to do stuff and can't do it because I don't have a saw bench, a drill stand, a vice etc. smile:cry:

The hacks and mods I did manage to do, still require me to get super close to my subjects. Never got a mod to work right more than an inch or so from the subject.

pin hole cameras are really easy to make [ you need film though or [ real ] photo paper ], you might even be able to make a digital one using the guts of an old digital camera.
