Still working on this one, want to make it a bit different from the metal grid one, so still tweaking away at it. Here's how some of it looks so far. Suggestions ?

Original (From one of Stevie's filter examples a week or two back)

Last week was metal, this week is glass it seems. You can relax, I haven't quite finished the glass one yet, it'll probably show up next week though. smile:)

I'm with StevieJ the first is my favorite - what sort of variation to the grid pattern are you considering [ apart from the ones you've shown obviously ] smile:?: as this effect the edge of the flower and is an integral part of your filter effect...... looking good ....... Carl smile:)

----Was thinking about seeing what I could do to kill the "pixel" look, but I can't decide really. Other than that, I dunno, you can see 2 different "grid" patterns in examples 1 & 3, I was going to try and find an easy way to make more of those to choose from, or mangle etc.

LOL.... I wouldn't say "mangle" .....just more artistic character smile:D ....which, seriously, is what I really like about your filters smile:)

Well, I usually run 4 or 5 different pics though each filter I work on, to see how it affects different colors and shapes and whatnot, and the nicest thing I can say about any filter I've made is maybe "artistic mangling" ha-ha. smile:D Not sure what else I can do with this one, I'll give it a day or two more then submit it if I can't find anything else to add/subtract.

I hate to suggest this (for obvious reasons), but that actually might look cool in metal and chrome too.....and not just because I'm a junkie smile:D

Well, you can just turn the *Surface Shine* up to 75%+, and raise the lighting *Surface Height* control up too, and get a chrome-ish carnival glass kind of look going on. That's the main difference(s) between metal/glass looking results anyways.

That is an excellent idea.....which reminded me of one of my lost irredescence filters in my stack. You know.....that blue/green irridized glass.....I actually have a collection of it and never thought of that.....

These forums are turning out to be a very valuable tool.....

----Well, I really don't need to, the controls are not range limited in such a way that it wouldn't preclude achieving both looks in the same filter. I realize you do very specific/minor changes to your filters, to achieve different looks, where-as some others (myself when I'm lucky etc.) try to leave more open-ended-ness on the control parameters, so that people can explore them a bit more and get a wider variety of results with one filter. Just different ways of approaching it I guess. I'd rather take an extra few minutes and tweak one familiar filter, than make 2-3 that are super similar, and have to try and remember which one does which thing a little different is all. I = lazy like that. smile:D

----Yeah, even someone like me, who doesn't really trade snippets and ask for a lot of tricks/tips, I still get ideas and inspiration from what the master's are doing ya know, or what's popular lately, in the case of your stuff. It's nice to see an active community, but to be honest, I come and go, I've just been lurking a lot this last week and a half, trying out some new ideas, and trying to finish up a bunch of filters that are just sitting around ya know. I'm sure I'll take a week or two off here soon, and you'll havta fill the forums yerself for a bit eh. smile;)

Yeah, I have done some of that.....just to cover it for users who may not be versed at how to tweak to get those effects from it.....thus, I have 40+ filters just from one filter smile:D LOL.....

----I used to kind of get on voldemort's case for having too many controls, so it's definitely a fine line (since apparently now I've complained about both too many and too few ha-ha). I figure a 10 to a dozen controls ought to be enough to get anything done, but sometimes it takes more, and sometimes it takes less. There's no right or wrong, I've just found that you can use one control for as many things as you like, and use range limiting, and reversing increments, and get enough randomness/modulation out of 2 controls, that could've taken 6 or 8 is all. Whatever works I guess eh. smile:)
