I have been using the same effect (Local Histogram Equalization) in the same exact way (standalone on a fast PC) for some time with the same settings and now for some reason it is freezing up halfway. It has always been very slow as I am using large, high rez photos to begin with as well as outputting @ 600 pixels, sometimes taking as much as a couple hours to render. Now all of the sudden it has been freezing up halfway and just sits there. The green bar keeps going, but no progress. Any ideas or help anyone?

Hi Arclight.

This filter does indeed take a long time to process!
The filter description does not indicate it had been update recently (still showing v 4.0 capability).
I have used this in FF10 and FF9 myself, and while slow as you note, it does eventually return a result in my experience.

Which Filter Forge version are you using?
Have you restarted the computer?
Which preset (if that makes any difference)?

Hi chrisd,
I am using the newest version of FF. I have tried it after restarts, and I am using the second preset.
So there's a chance it is because it has not been updated?

What I meant is that it is appears to be the same version of the filter that was originally uploaded in 2016.
I have used it in FF9 and FF10, so I don't think it has to do with the version of the filter.

I admit I have not used it in months, so perhaps its due to an update in the Filter Forge 10 application, I don't know for sure.
It could also be a local issue on your system, or perhaps even OS specific.

I don't have FF10 loaded on this computer (PC) at the moment. When I have a chance I will install it and give it a try.

The filter is very slow for 2 reasons: heavy blurring, which is very slow at larger radius. And to get the effect, a relatively high (25) anti-aliasing is also very slow. I couldn't see any obvious way to speed the filter up.

Go to Tools / Options / Rendering. Try increasing the Maximum RAM Usage to see if that helps your render time / freezing. Also don't run any other programs if possible during the render.

I downloaded and installed FF10 on this PC and installed the Local Histogram Equalization fr om the webpage.
I tested all the presets using the default images 600 x 600 and I loaded my own 3000 x 4000 image.
I'm not experiencing any freezing.

I have 32Gb of Ram on this system and FF is set to the default lim it of 60%
