I was experimenting with one of my spectral snippets and happened upon this spectral edge glow effect. The edge adherance and separation is somewhat similar to CF's "Neon Nights" and part of Craig's "High Pass Variants" filters.....but acheived in a very different and much simpler manner.....with very different colorization and color patterns.....
Although it can't reproduce any of the other filter's effects, I was wondering if this would be considered too close of a variant for submission??? Steve

After doing this.....I see that Craig's is pure high pass on the whole image.....CF's is much more of a diffuse glow with subtle color variations.....and mine seems to fall smack-dab in the middle of both..... Steve

Maybe adjust the colors part, and make it repeat more, or less, or have a control for the user to make it adjustable. It seems a little different, in as much as the other 2 are, you could make yours a bit differenter (is that a word ha-ha) than it is pretty easily I'm sure, and it'd be as valid a variant as those other 2 are.

True, never thought of it like that.....plus, who's going to use another spectral filter from me after I've already saturated the library with them Steve

I dunno, the library is already crowded in general, and FF isn't moving too fast on sorting it out it seems, so what's left but to just let them deal with it, and encourage people to make stuff as different as they can (and try to do that ourselves of course). If you really want to get all Donald Trump about it, I wouldn't bother making filters that look anything like ones that already exist unless they are mostly high usage filters ha-ha, but I am not quite that organized/cold & calculating myself. If you think it's different enough, and you've done the best you can with it, then I guess it's up to the rest of the filter users to use it or not after that point. Lord knows I could spend the rest of my life updating my filters, and they'd still not be as good as some I see on here, but I try not to sweat it too much eh, the show must go on etc.

Go for it. It does seem like its inbetween the two other filters. Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times!

Yeah, but it is teetering pretty close to yours. I was thinking of taking jffe's advise.....experiment with it for a while.....or turn it into iridized neon metal outlines for something different..... Steve

Hi Steve~
One question?
Are you using the cup now for filter examples? Did the rose retire?
Have to admit, the cup is nice~ Think I was growing emotionally attached to the rose though-----------------> LOL

Well, I like both the rose and cup pics, but I use them primarily because they both are technically flawed by having depleted information areas. When I test a filter using them, it will tell me how the filter will react and/or cover up bad areas on other pictures.....so users won't think the filter is crap if they run a bad pic through it...... you're kidding, right? you want me to NOT tease and just blare it out? lol.
that's actually a good idea with the cup and rose having a bit of a flaw. in the filter i'm working on now i'm using the cup pic and i keep coming up with that area on the handle being something i have to deal with in the filter. makes an interesting challenge at times. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Okay, I wouldn't want to spoil the fun It wouldn't be the same in here if you weren't dangling a concept in front of me like a steak in front of a hungry dog LOL.....
Yeah, the cup pic is actually an exceptional tester because it is also low res and the dark background depletes easily as well. The one drawback is that sometimes it makes you think that you've discovered a neat new effect.....and it only works on that pic Steve
