First attempt, any thoughts? Would this be a useful filter? What controls would you like?
So far I have line thickness for both the grid and the contours, detail, color of contours, grid, and background, and glow of grid contours and that is about it... Oh wait, I also have a fader for both the contours and the grid so you can change the opacity. Feedback?

No comments? Does it stink that bad? ... wait does it, and I am just so self diluted that I can't see that... Lie, lie through your teeth and tell me it is HU, Editor's Pick for sure, and what not; my ego may not be able to handle anything else
Did I mention I am cool ... Wait was that egotistical?

Can't get a picture up for a bit, but I should have realized that the LS is so old hat and should have gove for something a little more exciting, like a sponge... or a calculator.

Quick post then watching a movie with hubby~
I like the eye candy to go with the filter easier to comment that way on what's going on.
I like the filter and your're kewl so...

For a topographical map ... don't you need more browns and different hues of green? Been about 15 years or so since I used one, going from memory. I'll bet someone can scour a URL for you. And by the way I do love topographical maps, so yes, it's a kewl filter you have in the works!!!
Movie starting... gotta run... I need popcorn..

Thanks Pesidio, I have been looking at topological maps on wikipedia, and you are right, so I can produce that look; however, I am trying to go for a more computer-esque look with this attempt; you know the kind that one would see in a war room on a naval ship. But I do have to work with this one a lot more, it isn't up to my new standard of quality.

This is cool!!! I think it would be very useful if it reads changes in tone on topographic photos.... Steve

Maybe if your going for the war room strategy map you could put in a glowing positional blip or two - just a thought

Ohhh, good thought, I will try and get it so you can put circles, squares or triangles, all of varing size and color. That way you could "represent" points of interest. Good thought, any other thoughts of how to improve this?

Yeah much more interesting than just blips - I was trying to think what else those map have and all I could think of is some times coloured lines connect the markers, don't know how they'd look though might just make it look messy

I just had two more thoughts, put a radial gradiant so it looks like a radar, and put circles around the points so it looks like pings from sonar.

why not make this a 'contours' map? i dont think we have one of those. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

I have seen his filter, yes; and do want to avoid duplication, I think I will go more for a topological map, but will still add in whistles and bells so if you want different effects like dots or squares you can still add this.

There is a name for this... 99.9 % sure it's not topographical in it's name. Topographical implies a land map.
Sounds like you are referring more or less to a sonar map... and there is a name for it... also just asked my husband if he knew... he said maybe global positioning, intelligence briefing... war games... but he doesn't know the techinical name for it either...
trying to help...
strategic planning? Ariel Recon? With the help of the web maybe you can find out the name for this type of map... it's not topographical I know that...
does this help?
Jean
P.S. Sonar imaging!!! I think that's it. He said it and it clicks with me too... pretty sure that's what you are thinking of???

Triangulation? spelled right? That's for submarines, airplanes anything... works with GPS... three known spots.. you can know your location by comparing to three known locations...
((adding husband feedback here))
Looks like Night Vision~

Redcap...
This has the potential to be a truly remarkable filter! Is there anyway you could add a defined grid over the image? Either an "X-Y" straight grid, or possible a radial grid originating from the center?
I think if you keep the word "technical" in the back of your mind when you work on this, it will come alive on it's own accord.
Nice job...keep up the good work!
Good luck getting it to where you want it!

Great ideas revelation! the x y axis is uber easy to add, so that will be piece, the radial shouldn't be to much harder but will take some time.
Persidio, keep those names coming, as soon as I post some more sample pics maybe more names will come to mind.

Yeah, good ideas..... For Topography of land, I would use a movable and scalable longitude/latitude reference grid. I don't know how far you are going to go with this, but if you have those contour lines based on increments of tone, this could very well be made to use..... Steve
