ahimsa, it requires a 2.4 ghz intel pentium 4 or better or an AMD equivalent for minimum requirements. need 512 MB ram. 5.5 gig of harddrive space. 128 MB video ram and card that can handle 2.0 shader tech. directx 9c. and a lan with tcp/ip setup or for internet, broadband on the multiplayer side of things. so, yes, it takes a decent rig and decent internet speed. and those were the minimum requirements.

no, it's not hard to play, but a bit clumsy on the camera views. still getting used to that. i really would have preferred a 1st person pov. the combat seemed a bit too fast at first, but you get used to that pretty quickly and it can be paused so you can issue commands to your party.

there is a pretty strong and linear story line, but this is the campaign i'm playing currently. the modules can be a different thing and i havent tried those yet. havent even downloaded any yet. there are a lot of cut scenes (where everything stops to interject some visual or audio to augment and update the storyline). but it's not too intrusive and usually works pretty well.

i'm also a bit surprised at how much power the characters start out with in the campaign. a lot of rpg's have you die about 30 times before you can hold your own. this seems about right and havent died yet, though i did lose one party member, but i think that was going to happen regardless of anything i did. they wanted to lay down the premise of the story and that death was a part of it, or at least a part to impart that death is possible. besides, once you leave the original area, you go solo. so, killing off the party member didnt really hurt you. i think i'm going to be picking up new party members along the way to this new quest.

so, it was worth the $29.99 i paid off the shelf so far. and with all that i havent even touched yet, i'm sure it'll be well worth it.

and steve, havent really done any multi strat games since command conquer. although, i am playing an old one a little, Rise of Nations. but that was also a recent purchase from the bargain bin ($5) and i dont even know if it's still available to play online. and, with this purchase of NWN 2, i doubt i'll be getting any others to delve into for a while smile:) good idea, though. just bad timing smile:)

looks good, as far as i can tell. dont know about the vid card. not familiar with it. if it has pixel shader 2 capability and 128 MB of ram, you shld be fine. the 2.01 ghz mentioned there is an AMD and is roughly the equivalent of a 3.8 ghz intel....roughly. so that's fine. ram is fine. just dont know the vid card. radeon is ATI. you could look it up on their site.

Just thought I might stick this up here, if anyone wanted to see some of my own 3D creations I've made for Oblivion, Fate, DAZ and Get Skinned... my user name has always been Phauxxee, till I came here though. Was easier to spell smile:-p

Just thought (hoped) it would be ok to show a little of what I've done out there in the 3D world on the net smile;)

Link for the game FATE, did quite a lot of object sets for the players in this one:

Oblivion (where I've made the faces for other players) is the latest game for "The Elder Scroll" series. It has 2 xps for it as well, but I don't have those... AND (drum roll) it has First Person view!!! smile:D

Fate is a fun little cross between Diablo and Sonic Hedgehog... with an endless never-ending dungeon to explore. Regenerates new levels every game you place, can be moddes like all the rest I play, and addictive too if you like the 'hack & slash' sort of gaming smile:D

And, thanks... everything else is just 3D stuff for users of 3D programs to build enviroments with.

ah, ok. i was thinking all those things were user made modules for NWN 2.

so, do you have extras for NWN 2, like extra modules and mods or do you just play the basic game?

I have played a few of the mods, the Hall of Fame mods at IGN are the best so far. Stil, this is still fairly new, Nov. 2006, has a long ways to get better mods out. They haven't been as prolific as NWN1 was.

There is one I would suggest though. A must for me is the latest I discovered:

Companion and Monster AI 1.4
http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=...ail&id=141

Does just what it describes... makes the npcs much smarter, less time wasted for you to tell them what to do, where and when and with what. I can now give my dwarven friend both his favorite waraxe and throwing axes which he seems to prefer till the enemy get in his face smile:)

ahimsa,

do this:

1. on your desktop, RIGHT click and pick 'properties'.

2. when that opens up a new window, pick the 'settings' tab.

3. look for the button labeled 'advanced' and LEFT click it.

4. in the new window that opens up, look for a tab with name 'adapter' on it and LEFT click on it.

in the main box, it shld tell you how much ram your vid card has.

then, just hit 'cancel' on all those things you opened.

cool smile:)

i'll probably just continue the campaign until i get bored with it. usually doesnt take too long smile:) then, i'll start fooling with the editor. typically, i'll make mega weapons and armor and junk just to see how lethal things can be, then i'll start toning back till i find a good way to balance and start making environments. though, sometimes i start the other way around, i start making the environments and juggle that all around until i find the balance. just depends smile:)

That's great to know though, isn't it!
I was so happy to find that website, I think it was in the NWN2 forum I got the link where others were having slow and sluggish issues with their game. I was one of them. Then I just gave up, had someone go buy me a upgrade to my graphics card and now it's like playing with butter smile:D

hi jan smile:)

i'm making a training grounds with this module. just someplace you can go and fight endless critters and all the shops and workbenches and stuff. still havent learned how to spawn the critters, but i can at least set them and save them in an area. i think the spawning and re-spawning comes with the scripting and havent gotten into that yet. still learning some other basics smile:)

You will really enjoy it, Manon... but I also think you will especially like Oblivion, if you are into the acrobatic skills. When you ride a horse you really feel like you are riding a horse. They movements are very realistic as are the sounds, whether over cobblestone or sand, snow or grass. I use to love just running my horse full speed through the mountains and forests... of course by the time I was done I had a nice trail of monsters after me smile:-p

Can't wait for NWN2 Mask of The Betrayer, though... should be out any week now!!! Lots of new races, skills, abilities, and companions. Gosh, now I have to play a little more... getting that darn rpg rash again smile:D

ah smile:)

man, the docs for the NWN 2 toolkit are a bit lacking in information. simple things like 'here's how you make a creature spawn' seem to be missing. i'm going to have to find a good tutorial site. and the scripting stuff is extensive. i knew some of that in NWN 1, but it's REALLY prevalent in 2. i've forgotten what a 'heartbeat' is in this stuff and there's other terms i'm going to have to clear up also. i've tried a few pre-made scripts, but they dont trigger, so i'm going to have to figure all that out as well.

i've added more critters to my 'training grounds' module. lol. i've got so many in there now the module is bogging down when i load and run it. and i've got two critters in there that i cant beat or even hardly injure. so, i'm dying... a LOT. lol. but, i've also got some immortal npc's in there to help me. quite humorous to see an npc immortal fighting an immortal critter. they just sit there and fight endlessly without damaging each other. smile:D
