'run number and fall'... |
The run is the number printed, the fall is what number in the run - as no.1 can be worth more than number 30 say - in traditional fine art printing the artist proof [ testing and setting up ] can actually be of greatest value but I guess that wouldn't apply with electronic stuff - and with the other point of destroying the file that again comes from fine art of stopping the devalueing through numerious runs Quote |

i hope this one shows correctly with th reduced .jpg. i sort of like this one. the monster gives a semi-gem about 1 in 20, and a true gem about 1 in 100. this one comes close to a true gem to me.
hmmm, lost a little luster in the reduction. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

thanks, gunsan yeah, i'm partial to the grunge cup also. if you like grunge and grainy type effects, i've got some good ones in the monster.
hi carl. yeah, i'm liking it also, but i just ran across one of steve's filters with a very similar result, so guess i wont be doing this one as a spin-off filter. check out some of steve's metal filters for similar results. he's got one that is shinier, but similar to this one. yes, gunsan... a monster filter, with monster presets and a monster thread to show it off in. there is sort of a theme there, isnt there
and thank you
'the monster' is now full. phase one is complete. i supppose that was sort of the alpha stage. i'm on phase two now, beta. this will be re-arranging, tweaking, fine tuning, scrapping, altering and maybe an addendum or two. it's just a fun filter, primarily for artistic purposes and with a LOT of similar effects, but also a fairly wide range of effects. it's my 'hobby beast', my epic, my swan song it's what i work on to relax and enjoy.
so, i dont know if and when i'll ever release this monster, but i enjoy it and i hope you enjoy it a bit also. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

well, there are three things (at least) holding me back, gunsan (and hi from me too ), 1. it's not finished; 2. that filter just flies in the face of what is considered a 'good' filter by being such an undisciplined behemoth; and 3. i sort of like the idea that not all my ideas and filters become public knowledge/issue, and 4. (see, i told you there might be more than three) i enjoy teasing steve just a bit too much, and 5. it does keep a bit of allure or mystic to this thing by not releasing it, which in turn keeps up a nice thread where i garner some overly-desired attention oh, and 6. with all this build-up, i'm afraid the actual release would be such a let-down that i'd be run off the forums and i can even add a 7... it's starting to get slow with all that weight, at least in places. ah, and 8. i'd have to trim out over 200 presets, some with custom lighting before i could submit it. lol.
if you want to see snippets of it, check out the 'monster spawn' filters. those are all derived from 'the monster'. 'the monster' is really about 144 filters, or maybe more like 70 or 80 filters, mostly of my own making, where i've crossed various parts and effects into new effects and then tapped off that new effect into a switch. there are 12 main switches with 12 switch positions each and one master switch they're tied into, giving 144 separate effects. the controls are tied into and across these various effects to keep control redundancy down. thus, you get 144 switch positions available plus all the various controls to multiply those 144 effects into variations, plus it's a surface filter giving you all the hdri lighting environment controls, plus, by using my own custom lighting environments you get even more effects.
so, that gives you some idea of why i call it 'the monster' and why i havent released it, as yet
and steve, i dont know, without the 'tease factor' this thread may have died and the monster, too. your posts here have always inspired me to do more If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

well, i added 10 more controls to the monster tonight. lol. these are post-processing controls, like black point, white point, blur, sharpen, hue/sat, etc. to enable a bit of tweaking after the main effect is rendered. i was afraid i wasnt going to be able to save out of the editor, this thing is starting to bog down pretty badly
anyways, i took that morgue file and did a little work with it, steve: If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

HU is (H)igh (U)se, meaning a lot of folks have used your filter and you've subsequently gotten a usage rank point for it.
and yes, carl, that's what i'm going for, a forum HU i think they give those out to the person who talks the most but knows the least, so i'm sure to win one eventually
well, i'd rather you admired my work, gunsan, but thanks if i cant dazzle with quality, perhaps i can dazzle with quantity hehe, it's a fun filter in a lot of ways. when none of my other ideas work or i cant get something else to work right, i can always turn to the monster and fiddle some more If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

hi gunsan
yes, the monster takes it's name from it's size, not it's end effect
and thanks adding in those post controls has allowed a bit more refinement to things. so, i'm redoing some of the presets. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
