Background Generator was designed to create backgrounds for computer slide shows or to be used as a background layer for Photo's. This filter has 3 modes.
MODE 1: Gradient
MODE 2: Gradient and able to make a few simple shapes
MODE 3: Creates interesting effects on Photo's
You can also create a B+W mask at anytime by selecting MASK MODE.
Here are a couple examples of MODE 1:

After the mask is made, then go back into filter forge. I selected the Chocolate Factory filter (downloaded from the Filters area).

This gives you an idea of what can be done with a lot of the filters that are already uploaded. You just need a B+W mask.
I found that using Photo's in MODE 1 + MODE 2 did not work well but using a B+W Mask did. Here is another sample.

Hi Paul, nice samples and you've obviously put some effort in to this thread - as a suggest you'd be much better served if you put these samples into the filter thread, where they will remain connected to the filter rather than being lost in the forum and then anyone interested can just click the comment thread to see the filter in action, you can even make a comment in the filter description to check out the comment thread for samples of filter use

Cool stuff Paul, and ditto on what Carl said although maybe put the url of this page in the comments of that page saying that it shows examples Nothing wrong with a little insanity ;)

you've a very wide gamut of effects here. might be better to take some of those modes and turn them into their own filters. that seems to be the trend here. (just dont expect me to follow my own advice ). If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Thanks for the advise. I posted the link from the comments of my filter like you suggested. Never tried this before. This is a really neat way of showing samples.

What you do Paul is use this page for a oo look what I've made and dangle a picture created from a filter you haven't uploaded, yet.. or might not ever , and tease everyone like mad with it
Nothing wrong with a little insanity ;)

hehe, i'm all too familiar with this. i have one filter with over 125 controls but, i'm supposed to preach the company line of 'less is better' and tell you all to make nice, little, compact filters... lol. my 'the monster' has quite a few also and over 440 presets now If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
