Just ran two different filters then blended them with lighten and got this. Can quite do this in Filter Forge though because have a height map doesn't work with the grass. Will keep working on it, just thought it was worth posting.

Similar idea ... just took separately rendered images and merged them in Photoshop.

Nice Grass theme here.. , I tend to go for overlaying other kinds of textures and stuff.. but oo grass and things.. interesting idea.. **digs out some weeds, grass and mud textures** Will see what I come up with if the pretty sliders in FF don't distract me too much Nothing wrong with a little insanity ;)

a grass off? as in 'get your grass of my yard!"??
these are lookin good red, fred, and carl. so, what are the two sources you're all using, what filters were involved? If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Ssssh don't tell Dilla but I have been doing that with his Cog filter, rendering a few filters with overlays etc then slapping a cog on top. They turn out well sweet. Nothing wrong with a little insanity ;)

Here's a couple of examples of photographic seamless textures we've been developing with the kind assistance of Redcap.

It is individually masked photos with each duplicated and rotated a couple of times and sprinkled around a transparent canvas in Photoshop. A light shadow is applied and then it's sent out to a Filter Forge filter Redcap put together for me where the image is repeated, randomly moved, and blended through several dozen repeats and layers. The result is a seamless tile with either full or partial coverage.
The filter intentionally does not do any resizing or rotating in order to maintain size relationships between objects that are man made and to avoid slowing the rendering down too much. As with the other tiles I publish, we have standardized our tiles at a size of 3600 x 3600 ... so rendering time is a big issue.
I started in working with the same approach in the Genetica 3 beta which will allow you to work with up to 8 image inputs and has a new Free Transform node that doesn't distort the image. Unfortunately I got sidetracked with other matters and have to get back to that in due course.
One nice aspect of this approach is that I have the individual images available for any retouching needed post rendering in Photoshop, which mostly comes into play in breaking up repetitive patterns that sometimes develop.
Here's another one I made from a few masked photos of turquoise. Fred Weiss

interesting, fred. i like it.
but, let me ask this, how would that be different from using something like psp's tubes function? attached is such an image done with tubes. no extra shadowing was done on this, btw. it was all native. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Really? that is one of the features essential for 90% of my images rendered. Whether it be texturing 3d models or making uniform patterns. It is fun to see all the different things people use FF for though.

yup, i understand, but i dont do 3d. what attracts me to FF is the effect side for photo art. i've made a few texture filters, but mostly effect type. so, the seamless is almost an annoyance to me... almost you'll notice in my various requests for FF wishlist stuff, that i want more stuff that isnt seamless and square only. and i think i've rubbed vlad the wrong way a couple times in some of the stuff i've asked for because of it. of course part of that is that i've asked some dumb things, too
and dont get me wrong, i admire vlad and the rest of the FF team a lot. i still think this is one of the most amazing programs in the last 10 years or more. i just have a bit of a different vision for it maybe and a LOT less understanding of how it works than the FF guys If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

The benefits of seamless tiling are the only reason I use Filter Forge. Seamless tiles allow my customers a way to take an image of reasonable size and build it into the kind of image they need and use ... which is huge. Imagine you are preparing a design that will be used to cover an 8' x 40' tractor trailer and you want the image to be impressively sharp from 3' away. At 100 ppi, the image will be 9,600 x 48,000 pixels and will take an hour or two to RIP to the printer.
The seamless tile is an invaluable building block in that process.
