I have been working on this one. Its a leaf generator of sorts. Heres some picts so far..I need to figure out a way to cut the leaf out of the background to make it work
with the stems and branches..

i gave it a shot, but the problem is that you've got similar shades within the leaf and outside the leaf, so separting by lightness/darkness or even color is near impossible without taking things back to a graphic editor and using extraction tools.

i could get it a little better here and there, but tended to lose definition in the leaf itself. i'll post what i have, just in case you can grab an idea, but i think you'd have to do the separation you want geometrically and i just dont know how to do that on this one.

Its really gonna turn out to be a brain wrenching one thats for sure..I also get the
outline of the leaves but never the inside..

Are you going to change the center black to different gradiented colors for the flower.....or do something else like add another interior pattern? smile:)

Well that black center is what I did not want and that was what I was trying to figure out how to get rid of..
I am going to try and figure out some type of veins or maybe another color...
Right now its just plastic leaves..
Heres the FF file so far..

if you turn down the surface height and add in the 3 last controls on the results component, you can get a more natural looking leaf. i also added in the hue/sat controls.

nice addition, steve!

Thanx smile:) I didn't know if CF wanted to loose those longitudinal leaf lines.....because a realistic 'Beech Tree' leaf could be created by keeping them and putting in random angled cross-vein lines.....and popping the height in between....

You are probably right about turning down the height.....maybe just a little too much 3D.....but I think that it does add some 3D realism to it.....

Its not my filter I'm holding for a friend....hehe

StevieJ: post more picts when you get them, looks interesting so far..

Yea the height was a little to strong on that one Stevie. But I am at that experimental point on this also..At least the main part of the leaves is done
the basic shape of a leaf anyway...But still can experiment with that also..
So there is no direction of the leaves at the moment..Or there might be different versions...Heres one I was playing with as far as the surface...

LMAO..... smile:) Good One!!!

This idea was making me think of a 3D side-angle arrangement of flowers and/or greenery....which could be very useful in design renderings as well as artistic..... What do you think??? smile:) Anywho, you've peaked my interest.....and I'm into gardening like others are into golf smile:)

fiddling with to get it to where it looked good and blended in with the leaf..

PS..... Every time I look at this, I wonder about using the curve profiles to create side views of plants, trees, greenery, flowers, forest, etc.... It's a crying shame that it takes so long to render.....because it is such an excellent concept!!! I wish that FF would figure a way to make filters like this run faster.....like a programmed accelerater similar to what is found in graphic card software.....

LOL..... I'm beating a dead horse smile:D I'm seroiusly considering a new multi-processor graphics computer. I'm starting to do things with high res images that are bogging me down time wise. Funny, what I have works slick for large AutoCAD renders.....and not so well with extreme high res image files.....

well, if you've got a single core, 3 ghz or so, you shld be ok. i'm running a single core 3.5 and where a dual or quad core would improve things, i'm sure, i'm not sure the cost ratio is currently worth it. but that's just me. if you're working commercially, the cost to time ratio would change and be more significant.

That's exactly what I've been thinking.....

Yeah, time is everything with me.....sometimes I have myself strung out pretty thin juggling everything smile:)

Now that the resolutions of digital are starting to meet and surpass that of film, I've completely dropped photography altogether.....cutting out all of that photo darkroom, processing, scanning time.....and all those photo expenses.

I just sold all of my camera equipment on Ebay.....and very thankful that there are still photo buffs out there.....because sooner than later, photo is going to become totally obsolete....

Don't get me wrong, I still use photo technology towards making prints. I've been having my digital images shot to make cybachrome prints.....the depth and richness is just unbelievable.....

I think this curve profile method is quite clever. My attempt to use noise to branch veins in your leafs gave me the idea that it could also be used to create stems and branches.....then map on distorted arrays of a single leaf to create side views of plants, flowers, trees, greenery, etc.....

Hi Steve~

Hi CFandM~

Your leaves are done right? Thought I'd show you a project I'm working on (not leaves----> but sure looks like it at the moment.

It's almost 4am here so going to bed.
Nite,

Jean

P.S. Sorry about the color but they currently have to be in this color family to get the leaves to show like this. My project has tin and metal on them with the life preserver. (((Tired- going to bed))). LOL. Nite.
