Hello and welcome to the lab where fun things kinda happen now and then. Okay to be really honest, its just what I've been doing with FilterForge for the last couple months.

Just to give you a glimpse of what I do with FF here's a picture from my Memory Series.

By the way Lab#3015 is where I'm in right now.

You can remember things... but you feel fuzzy about them. You somehow know where you are, but you kinda started forgetting about them....

The day before I made this filter, I was having trouble remembering a place I knew for quite a long time. I was hitting my head against a wall and I came up with the filter. Serious.

Here's another....

These photographs were shot specifically in areas of Tokyo where I often go. Otherwise they're photographs taken from trains.

Most of these pictures are ultra resolution for printing purposes. Generally I like printing huge for the overall impact and experience.

that's an interesting series, skybase. sort of a super saturation, dreamscape, paint with light kind of thing. sort of like lucisart meets dreamscape or something out of a battlestar galactica scene.

Photo Countries is the "higher-end" version of the countries filter!

Here are some interesting results.

Below we have an input image.

FilterForge text effects!

What makes Filter Forge interesting is that its also an effector. Of course that's logic. But what that basically means is that I can take any image and use it to generate more interesting compositions.

Here I wrote my user name, Skybase, in Arial Black and applied one of the new filters I made just for fun.

Lowering the resolution of the tiling, we start seeing new ways of looking at the same text. The text actually becomes something different and unexpected. Rather than "reading" you see a sort of simplified language ... or some kind of brail-like system.

The text finally becomes incomprehensible and completely a different object to view. A new ascetically pleasing object is born from simply lowering the resolution of tiling. It's more than just "text" but rather something to generate new ideas out of.

Just as an experiment here are several interesting circular results.

One last one. This was a picture of a cat, but due to extreme quality reduction through FilterForge, the picture has turned into a completely interesting thing.

It's not that it matters what the subject is, it's the beauty of how things look after processes have taken place.

And... the output looks like this.

Certainly can have some working around the filled areas. This is where things get quite tricky as I may need to go in and delete some nodes for a better effect. Works nicely though. smile;)

Yay! Rollie Color Stamps!

This new filter takes your image and transforms it into a glittery, silk print. Hey the stars are just a bonus feature, though they do a good job making things look fun.

Filter can also bypass the threshold effect and apply the gradient directly on the image.

SICK! The most gruesome abstracts were made with FilterForge. Experimental stuff I made for a poster idea. I was brainstorming and came out with a headache so I messed up the filter I was just trying to make and... well somehow ended up with this cool looking one.

It was originally going to be heavily CMY colors and K was going to be the color of the text. Some sort of "oops" happened and I'm now using Flickr colors lol.

Inspired by Crapadilla's Synthetic Cubism, only extremely simpler and not as complex.

BY THE WAY, you can view a much higher resolution here Sick poster

interesting rearrangement, but a bit too much 'blown out' white for my tastes.

This one was done by limiting the rate of fragmentation. The white part is actually the sky which was pretty much alpha'd out.

Pictures are carefully selected to represent a range of things in cities. Such as this picture of an alley which was transformed into something a bit more than that.

It's hard to explain when you make literal things into abstract.... Aside from the technology behind Filter Forge, what intrigues me is how they all come together to form something interesting.

Last one for the forums.

It's always fun to make something from the ground.... This was one hell of an experiment, and I think it went well.

You can view higher resolution versions of this on my deviantart page among other Filter Forge / Procedural works.http://skybase.deviantart.com/gallery/?10843087#Procedural

I was imagining of using a Holga. Then I thought to myself "HEY I CAN USE FILTER FORGE."

So I took my old Dreamer filter, took some of its components apart, and reassembled something that made images look like I took them in the 1970s.

Either way, this new filter can do the following:

A) Simulate bad colors / tints / and crap that happens with expired film.
B) Simulate heavy Vignette and burn effects on edges (happens often with Holga)
C) Simulate UV Rays affecting the printed photograph. Or in other words, if you leave a print out too long, the UV rays will make the picture look bluish.

What it cannot do yet:
A) Simulate light leaks.
B) "blur" yes... really.
C) Simulate smudges, dust, and other rubbish.

So anyway here's the original image.

Using a similar preset... you can go back in time and take a picture back in 1974 and bring it back to 2009. (wow I just confused myself)

Holga = The Holga is an inexpensive, medium format 120 film toy camera, made in China, appreciated for its low-fidelity aesthetic.

Those look heavily affected, is there an "Effect" slider that tones it down (the whole effect)?

smile:!:

Better yet, you should make a time line slider. 1960-2010. smile8)
