i just happen to have several sets of those glasses and tried this out. nope, doesnt work. i think, for one, your offset may be too far apart.

i had a photoshop plugin that claimed to do this effect also, but i could never get it to work right.

craig

edit: btw, i tried it both ways, with the red pane over one eye and then flipped the glasses so it was over the other. neither way worked smile:(

The reason it doesn't work is that both the red and blue are identical images. The only difference is their offset: this might result in one image but it wil only look like a flat plane.

Hmmm, both interesting. This is why I posted instead of submitting. Have to make sure it works. Anyway I'll post the filter so far if anyone wants to mess with it or finish it thats cool to.

They didn't send you a new key yet ? You've already qualified for a full release copy no ? Now, if I don't get a new beta-extension key, well, that won't be terribley odd ha-ha. smile;)

CF, you're getting closer. the last one, the chess set is the best so far. the two previous ones i could sort of, maybe, somewhat see it, but the last one i can see it in the red chess pieces a bit.

i tried reversing the glasses, but that didnt help.

Shouldn't an anaglyph look more like this...

It's kind of hard to do right without a proper height map. And I don't quite understand how offset maps work yet.

Anyway...

Thats excatly what one would look like..Should submit that one...I was also going for some different looks in here also..Aside from that I just got glasses so I can mess with this filter some more..
They are easy to find with a search...

You don't actually need glasses to see 3D. You could make two seperate images and cross your eyes (found an online example). The downside for this method is that this only works with small images (your eyes don't rotate that far) and you might get a headache. I attached a quick try, it doesn't really look 3d but it illustrates the idea.

Did a little digging: it's called a stereogram. I wonder if it's possible to create one of those autostereograms with FF.

I had a breakthrough today just toying around and I've found out how to turn a height map into it's respective horizontal and vertical offset maps.

The method has a few quirks that need to be worked out yet but here's something cool I did using it...

Can you spot it? Put on your 3D glasses.

Once I work out the problems, I'll submit the filter.

That was my first goal, but it looks like I started something smile:D Maybe more FF filters being uploaded using these methods... smile:D

Very cool Richard, easily create not only textures, but textures for use with 3d glasses... smile:beer:

Since you are working on that one which is one I was also thinking about..I will travel down another filter road...This is kinda like my Optical Illusions filters.
Only use it with 3d glasses..But still neat looking..This pict relax the eyes and you can see the blue center...Stare at the center for a moment and blink and the blue will be gone for a split second..Hopeful its not just my eyes...

OK I am still in experimental stadge with this very cool method from Richard. Some mey remember my post about a 3d cube of sorts found here. http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...10&TID=747
More experimental things..I was curious as to how this would look using the anaglyph.
Heres a pict, don't forget the glasses...

Heres the FF file..The controls I did not delete or do anything with so they are kinda weird and out of order.....Its also kinda slow due to the texture on the globe...

While working on another filter using this 3d glasses method..Sorry to post for those that don't have glasses but it may be of interest one day ..smile:)
Anyway I thought I would try a crazy pattern with this method..I guess you can call it a breakthrough of sorts. I discovered a way to get height, just put on the glasses and here is a pict...

CF, you're getting this down! the rose pic really has depth! both it and your last image sit 'beneath' the surface of the page. very well done!

now, can you make it pop out and touch me? i remember going to a theatre years ago and watching some class B horror movie that was done in 3d. they did a limited number of 3d effects, but the ones i remember were things like a bat flying out into the audience. it was really quite amazing. i remember taking off the 3d glasses at one point and looking at the screen to see where these were coming from... quite hilarious looking back on it now smile:) but you've really got some depth there. i'm impressed! i found myself trying to see under the edge of the page on those last two. i'm now keeping my 3d glasses close at hand awaiting your next marvel smile:)

Well heres an update for those interested...I have reached the second goal in the making of this filter..The first was to get some decent depth..The second was to make part of the image pop out from the background. The layer where the second image sits still needs to have some image controls in place. They could be considered layer controls of sorts..So here are some picts so far..The image looks weird since I have only just gotten as far as making the image come out of the background..

Well some good news, bad news....First the bad news theres a lot of controls on this. But thinking in terms of Photoshop there are 5 different layers or filters in this one..The background which has the basic depth, then the other four layers has their own seperate effects and depth controls. Just in case the user wants to have one part of the pict come out further than another part...The good news is I only have left to name the controls then its done for now..It might look better with more layers but its still cool for now...Heres a pict..

Well this is now the last post for this really, Unless I think of something else smile;)
But this filter is done and has been submitted..I called it Anaglyph Images..
I made the presets based on a lot of images so the default image might not look that good. One hint about this and other filters in the library. Sometimes they look a whole lot better running the picture through the filter then running that saved picture through the filter again..Running it through 3 or 4 times is good also..
I ran this picture through 3 times and it brought the image out more of the background
almost to a halographic level..Not quite there but it looks way cool...
