same idea, with a square. It's a bit tricky to line the ribbons up so they interlock.
I think it might be good to make several rings which are just separately adjustable. Zoom in, zoom out, rotate, etc., pick if they're circular or a shape.

Also thinking it might make sense to just assemble all the parts in a big 'ol multiblend, or behind switches, for better speed.

The trick w/ getting these things to interlock is they have to be split at the corners, not in the middle. Not quite working here.

WOOOW !!! CorvusCroax, it absolutely AWESOME how you have changed the Band of Runes filter, and all the many possible variations you have made that look soooo beautifull !!! Great ideas.

Love them ! The Rustizer one, is really great effect and very interesting and the effect is seems to me like very old inscriptions sculpted on stone, or could fit also very well for Steampunk graphics themes. Very good to change the writings inside and changes the shapes size of circular ribbons, and also the idea of add triangles and rectangles !!

Great! Please, Are you going to share the filter for this when you finish making it ?

Sure, I'll post it here as I'm working on it and you guys can kick the tires. The controls are ... well, there are a lot of controls and they don't all make elegant sense. Getting the ribbons to interlock is a bit tricky, for instance. I'll submit it when it's all 'done'.

You know, I was actually thinking that one could go steampunk with it: alot of the shapes could be replaced by little gears and it could very easily look like in innards of a clock or something. The text in particular could be made to be gear teeth since it's set up to size adjust as needed.

Sort of like this, but with more gears etc:
(this is part of the Prague astronomical clock tower.)

Thanks very much for the filter test preview, I will test and see it how it works.

You have put exactly was I was looking for, Yesterday I knew that I have seen these design style somewhere, and knew was something astronomical, but could not remember what it was, and now looking at the photo of Prague astronomical clock tower, I now know it, yes, THIS IS IT! I have seen before this beautiful clock and looking at your designs I remembered this clock.

So, what do you all think? Should I submit the Rune Circle to the library? Or are the controls etc too confusing?

That's quite a number of controls you got here! I think that's ok, to some extent this is a pretty complex filter and given that a huge number of controls is acceptable to an extent.

Though as a measure, I guess the one thing that I usually ask myself before I upload stuff to the library is: "Does it give me bad results when I hit the next variant button?"

I see once in a while when I hit the next variant button it gives me some of the most epic RuneCircles that are ultra hard to decipher so... it can probably use some limits on some of the controls. I don't know which ones but I'm sure that'll bring this further along.

Very nice work overall smile:D

As far as design wise this is absolutely beautiful..I can think of many things to use this for...Even incorporate some tech circles with this.. smile;) smile:)
Thou I would check the spelling..."Strokes Ammount" smile:?: smile:)

As far as controls wise you have included a good amount of those..Its a hard one to call..Some may not use it because there are too many controls and it is confusing....But having that many controls means more control over the design.... smile;) smile:)

Yeah, that's sort of why it needs a lot of controls: because of the variability, some of the things need little 'tweaks' to look good or line up w/ something else. I'll post the updated version and you can see how it works.

Yep, fixed that and completely renamed all the controls to be more user-friendly. Everything is now named consistently.

I'll post the updated version later tonight.

Almost ready for primetime. It occurs to me that I should probably add some color controls for people...

Gah!... Tried to upload the V5 version here, but it's too big to post on the forum. (291 KB) (And can't submit zips or rar)

Stripped out all the extraneous junk / explanations of what the parts do, and it's still 261kb. Danggit...

You can try zipping it, then rename the zip to ffxml and try to upload here instructing us how to 'reverse' engineering that nasty hack trick smile:dgrin:

Anyway, fantastic filter as always, Corvus...I had the chance to try it while ago!

As I have said before this is really an awesome, fantastic, beautiful and wonderful filter and is really very artistic and special, and I hope to see it published in the filter forge library and that it gets much downloads and lot of popularity because I think it deserves it.

It does not matter if it has many controls, I think that this is a good thing and not a bad thing, because this way it is more customizable, and gives more possible alternatives and variables and can choose to make more changes. What would be bad is to only have a few controls in a stunning filter like this.

Congrtaulations on V5 version and hope that I can this new version, as seems to be even better than the previous one, and I hope that you can upload it here by compressing it (Please, do not strip it out, post it fully although is bigger) in some way.

I know that sometimes you can double compress a file that is NOT a image, I mean that you compress it once, and then the resulting file is compressed again.

Also ZIP is not the only compressor and there more that sometimes give you higher compression rate.

And if not possible to post it here, just upload to the FF library and then after this if you want to change something you can upload an update.

Thanks really very much for all your work, your ideas and expert skills for making this filter.

it's the seamless tiling thing on the website. it wants to make all presets seamless, if you didnt make up nine presets. it will fill in up to nine presets on the website.

Ok, got bored and made a bit more extreme version:
Hit a base rune circle output with 2 versions of 'bronzerizer' (one up and one down) and also 'chisel gold'. Overlayed them both and used alpha masks to make one or the other come forward. Then took little FF jewel bits and sphere bits and placed them around. Took an other Rune Circle output, hit it with 'burninate', and overlayed it.
Looks pretty good, imho. I think all the parts are FF, actually.

Here's another version with some more moody lighting:
Just put a blurred scruffy metal image on overlay to get the darkening, then added the light streaks.

It occurs to me that I could probably take the basic structure of 'Rune Circle' and make the ribbons have a meaningful height map, which could be made to interweave. Could actually make a kind of 'celtic knot' interweaving pattern thing. Hmmm.....

Kind of like this:

As said by Indigo Ray, I am also speechless and impressed with your artwork, but past the first impact I want to tell you my opinion.

WOW this looks really beautiful and love it very much, I really love the look it has with the metallic look and the lighting and very well composed, you are a great artist that really know how to combine different FF filters to get that great artwork.

Looking at your lovely example, it has inspired me to really experiment and try different filters and mix them with a Run Circle image base.

AND ALSO you can of course use any of the MANY PHOTO EFFECTS plugin filters available for photoshop to even take the manipulation further and make it more complex. Also could be used mixing the FF result with different photoshop blendmodes.

ALSO CAN BE ADDED ADDITIONAL TEXTURES

I have also thought that you can add an aditional background texture of stone, rust, copper, worn and aged metal, concrete, silver or any other material(you can find lots in www.cgtextures.com or many other websites) and then also use FF filters and mix all toghether in photoshop.

Yep, that's pretty much what I do! I especially like the big wad of NVIDIA textures, btw.
I think there is a lot of potential for making FF filters which are driven by an a carefully made input texture(such as is made by the Rune Circle filter).
For example, create a filter which applies 3 materials based on the R,G,and B channels of an input texture. It would just pick which color would go over which other color. With just that tool, you could make all kinds of textures.

Here's another one:
Using Stoned and Lichen it, Derelict by Carl, Bronzerizer, a custom pipe thing i whipped up. The lightning and the glowy rune bits are textures I bought somewhere.

Not as good as the one above (it needs more lighting IMHO), but fun anyway. Used the same process: hit the same input image with different filters and then brush between them to mix them.

Wow !! Not as good as the other ???? I find it really fantastic and amazing, excellent textures and lovely golden simbols, and the central blue lighting, and the genral composition, and the beautiful background, for me this is excellent, and in my own personal opinion I prefer much this one than the one above, this one has a rich life with those wonderful textures, simbols and lighting shinning through.

You are a great artist and know very well how to combine things to be able to make such a wonderful aand beautiful works of art. Congratulations.

I think you will have to use another similar filter already available on the FF Library.

There is already one Space Hulk filter available in his filter page here but I do not know if this is what you want, and perhaps these ones are not included as presets and you will have to find out how to make them with this filter.

Some great stuff in this thread!

Can anyone tell me what filter was used for the effects shown on page 9 and 10 of this thread (images below)? I didn't see it mentioned and it doesn't resemble anything in CorvusCroax's filter list. If it's not in the library, can it be posted here? I really love this effect...
