Craig, I didn't want to post it in the filter comments.....but I believe your "Color Corrector" filter has six dead controls on it (no effect on image).....unless you fixed it over the last few months since I looked at it???

thanks, steve. and you're right on both counts; there were ineffective controls and i did update it. only, i never submitted the update for some reason. i've submitted it now. shld show up tomorrow, i would guess.

i may have messed it up by adding in the 'starts'. it's starting to get to be more than a color corrector and more of a color manipulator.

Okay then.....just so long as you're not blaming me for it..... smile:| ..... smile:dgrin:

I must confess.....I submitted a couple "Color Correction" filters of my own.....which are probably diluting it so much that they will go LU as well..... smile:cry:

yup, no floating email addys are allowed. this is an anti-spam measure taken by Doug, the owner. he's aware that there are a LOT of legitimate 'floating' email addresses, but he's also VERY aware of the amount of spam that gets generated from those floaters.

the thing is, though, if you've got an isp, you've got a non-floating type email address. you may not be using it, but you have one. i know of NO isp that doesnt provide at least one email address per customer. so, you've really no good excuse not to sign up... you lazy bums! smile;)

and if nothing else, you can view my gallery images without signing up. go here: http://www.retouchpro.com/gallery/mem...&protype=1 ... you lazy bums! smile;) smile:D

abstracts, true abstracts are somewhat hard to do, especially in a filter. not impossible, but good ones are a bit tricky. thus, i havent really put a lot of attention and time into trying to do one, but, i happened to run across something i liked that came about in another filter i was working on. naturally, the other filter wasnt an abstract at all; it just happened that some of the settings turned out that way smile:)

i call this, "Nude in a Bath".

She must have a pretty shallow bath Craig... Cool image though, did you add the black lines?

thanks, beliria smile:)

no, i didnt add the black lines. this was done from a photo of, yup, a nude in a bath smile:) the filter simply abstracted it. so, it was an effect filter, not a texture type. and yes, it was rather shallow smile:)

hi carl,

yes, i believe you're right. true abstractions are missing in the filter library. i think the point most folks miss when trying to do abstractions is, that an abstraction is based on something else. you dont just have an abstraction; you have an abstraction OF something else. that's sort of why i posted that last image. it was a nice abstraction of the nude (and no, i wont post the original here smile;) ). i guess another way of saying it would be to say that an abstraction filter would almost always be an effect filter, not a texture filter.

I agree, it's the difference between Abstraction and Abstract - it pretty easy to do an Abstract with FF but alot harder to do a Abstraction [ effect filter ] of modern art quality - that why I reckon your on to something - worth seeing where it can lead you - I can see lots of possibilties smile8) smile:)

OH! Sweet! I thought it was a texture filter that made the image. Even better. Effect image filters are way cool, makes for far more possible out comes than just a texture filter.

this is from my 'renoir' filter. i've tried doing van Gogh filters, but they're much harder to do. Renoir was a little more true to life in his painting and not nearly as impressionist as van Gogh. so, it's hard to catch and make those broad brush strokes like van Gogh. but, i'm working on it smile;)

oh, and the photo used was one by patricia kay, used with her permission. see more of her work on retouchpro.

and just to show you where i am with the van Gogh... this one is very crude yet and much more difficult to work out, like i said above. so, view this one not as a finished product yet; there's just a ton of stuff i have to work out including isolating the strokes better, some randomizing issues, some blending issues and so on. so, very crude at this point.

I wonder how you can get a glossy effect like a real crystal, with the underlaying textures and part transparency?

well, this filter was trying to do exactly some of the things you asked about, underlying textures, glossy or reflective surfaces, facets and depth. if you look real close at what i'm posting, you'll see some varying opacity in the depth and underlying textures. but, i just never quite put it all together right.
