I love Filter Forge, but I'm just saying... having a lot of issues with FF8 on the Mac, so if anybody is interested, I know how to convert version 8 filters to work in Filter Forge 7, so if you are interested, drop me an email and I'll let you know how to do it. I figure the FF team would not appreciate me revealing how to back date FF8 filters in public...
UPDATE: Sorry, the email link is not working right now, FF is in some kind of chaos, so here's how to do it... Here is the tip for changing a FF8 filter to FF7. I used TextEdit on the Mac to the edit the ffxml file. You can probably use Notepad in Windows (or any other text editor). First make a backup of the filter just to be safe. I’ve edited filters both in My Filters and System/Library and this method seems to work. Very simple. I assume you know where the filters are, if not there are forum articles on how to find the ffxml files. Search for: version … in the ffxml file. The 2nd occurrence in is in the Information tag (with filter description etc). For an example here is the Demiregular Tiles filter (in System/Library/Library_14838-1.ffxml). The Information tag looks like this: <Information author="Rachel Duim" name-en="Demiregular Tiles" url="http://duim.org" description-en="A tiling filter with kaleidoscope like effects. The filter consists of demiregular tiles and variations.[br] [br]To use turn on the View Tile Seed? checkbox. This will show the shape of the seed and the area of the image which it will use for tiling. You can then use the Left-Right, Up-Down, Scale Seed & Rotate Seed contols to find the part of the image you want to use for the tile. After that, uncheck the View Tile Seed? checkbox and your tile pattern will appear. [br][br]You can change the shape of the result by checking or unchecking Square Tile. This will make the 12, 6 or 3 sided tiles into a square result. [br][br]You can create smaller tiles by changing the Number of Quarter Tiles. [br][br]The list of tiles can be found in a .pdf document at: [br]http://duim.com/filterforge-DRVG/DemiregularTileList.pdf[br][br]Username: filter [br]Password: forge" keywords-en="kaleidoscope tile tiling pattern seed repeat demiregular convex tessellation truncated hexagonal" update_notes-en="" major_version="8" minor_version="3"/> The major and minor version of the original is 8.3. I changed it for FF7 to look like this: <Information author="Rachel Duim" ……. update_notes-en="" major_version="7" minor_version="7"/> The only thing I changed is the two version parts to make major/minor version 7.7 and then saved the file. Moved the file to the System/Library folder in FF7 and it worked! Let me know if this works for you. I also changed a couple of files in My Filters and moved them back to FF7 and they worked too. An idea for a completely different filter. What about ....
- Isolating the flower - Adding an abstract vase shape - Repeating the flowers with different sizes to create a flowers composition. |

Thanks for the idea, might do something with it. The tiled image is a orbital trap fractal from Fractal Domains, but I might be able to do something in FF to emulate it so that I have a tile to create the central flower with. The center is a dodecagon, might be able to use that aspect to create the flower like object, will think about it. For today, Starwomen, from Even Sided Tiles.

Great idea Ramlyn. Here's a first attempt at objects becoming flowers... somebody else came up with a great vase.

First of all, thanks to emme & Gogger (aka Erik Pedersen) for their encouragement. I will be taking a break releasing filters for various reasons as I have discussed in emme's Procedural Experiments. But I will continue to write filters creatively. I will put some filters out again down the line when the time is right.
