Did this go HU yet???

That would be something.....but I would need a microscope to do the texture though..... smile;) smile:D LOL.....

The one posted......about a 100 hours if everything goes right.....depends mostly on the size, texture detail, and how many times I have to re-work the surface with the soldering iron.....which is the most time-consuming part. I go through alot of soldering tips because I'm keeping it in the solder.....moving back and forth to create texture waves, ripples, striations, patterns, ect.....

umm, the whole original waterfalls is overlays. what this is, is i've stripped the whole thing down to its component parts and am doing just one part at a time to make it easier to work with. this is just a falls themselves, no water, no mist, no background, etc. just falls, but done as a separate filter. i'll be doing this to every part and then put the whole back together again.

and, whereas every part may not be a worthy submissible filter, i think this one is. so, i'll probably submit it pretty soon.

Hmmmmm.....I was just thinking that a "Rain" filter might work well with a droplet smart filter in CS3..... smile:devil:

yes, i was thinking of that also. i dont really think we have a great one for that. and one reason i havent submitted this filter yet is something right along those lines. i'd like to get some droplets going in this thing; not big, giant single drops like from a water faucet, but the smaller rainish type but still somewhat defined as drops rather than streaks. so, if you've got any ideas and can keep it within the pam picture frame of mind with lots of drips, streaks and droplets coming down in a sheet of streaks like the pam picture, why, i'm all ears.

now see, i can do one like the attached just fine and i can adjust it just fine for density, color and opacity, but if you look at it closely, it's too regular and too linear. no drops, just streaks. i mean, it's not real bad, but it's just missing something. i may have to spend some time googling water images again smile:)

ok, i've worked out a new feature for this called 'cascade'. it adds that whitish sort of rippled effect of a waterfall to all this. i've also added a couple more controls for manipulating the overall effect.

I think you could get that even more realistic with stretched perlin and shallow/blured height on refraction..... smile8)

yeah, i've played a bit with the stretch... uhm, not happy with it yet, but good eye smile:) the refraction idea is interesting, but not using any on this one...yet. i really dont want to add it for the time added by a refraction. but again, very interesting idea and i may well put that in in some tests.

in the meantime, i've plugged the new Falls filter into the Waterfalls filter and got this:

That looks cool!!! smile8)

If you want, try swapping it out with my "RippledGlass" filter by turning it vertical for just the waterfall.....then tighten up the blur and refraction parameters for a realistic rippled/glassy/translucent waterfall type..... smile:)

And hey, that filter was spawned from your "Glass Menagerie" filter.....so you would kinda still be using your own work..... smile;) smile:D LOL.....

thanks, steve smile:)

i'll have to look at 'Rippled Glass', steve. and lol on the full circle with glass menagerie smile:)

ok, i just looked at the guts of rippled glass and yes, we're almost exactly on the same page there. i used two perlins, you used one, i used on refraction, you used one, but the rest is very similar. i may well have to try out the refraction. i already have the perlin and blur. i wont need the hue/sat. i already have 6 or 7 color controls in there. but again, we're very similar, the biggest diff being the refraction. could well be useful. thanks smile:)

oh, and if you are using PicLens on your browser (i recommend it), go to google image search and look up 'waterfalls' and then use piclens. it's quite an array and you'll also see where i'm getting my inspiration.

ok, i'm starting to grin on this one. i took your refraction, steve, and removed my blend between the two perlins and used one perlin for height and the other for source. i'll keep that in for a few more tests and see how it holds up. what it seems to do for now is, adds some more ability to contrast and changes the pattern just a bit, and seems to change it for the better, giving a bit more 'droplet' shapes here and there. you wont see teh droplets too much in the image i'm posting, but i do see it in others.

ok, let's see if this works. i had to cut the optimization WAY down in order to get under the 250k limit here, but it may still be ok for viewing. just bear in mind this was compressed like 80%.

excellent [ and it always disappointing having to downsize and those all the subtleties ] and the pic one does have a feeling of water leaking down - how long is the full waterfall taking to render now smile:)

thanks, carl smile:)

i might do up a better version and post it on youtube or something. might be fun.

the waterfalls in the full form, dont take very long to render... maybe 30 seconds per image or so. and in the just-the-falls version, it's about the same, but that one has the refraction added. actually, thinking about it, it's probably not even 30 seconds on both. prolly half that, maybe.

well, it looks better in the larger size, but thanks smile:) i think i'd do it differently if i were doing it again. i'd move less sliders per frame for less changes at one time.

and that's an excellent idea on the children's books... online, animated children's books... boy, i know some animators that would be excellent for that. do children like porn? smile:dgrin: ok, maybe not. but all kidding aside, that really is a good idea. i wonder what a google on that would turn up?

Well, that was the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw your animated waterfall.....thought that it would enhance the story for young childen better than picture books.....while being much easier for parents to pick and choose different stories online.....instead of having to go out and buy books.....

All I ask is for a 5% royalty for the idea.....or at least a dishonerable mention at the website..... smile:| ..... smile:dgrin:

All I've ever found are little "play pages" on the most popular children's sites.....so I think it's worth exploring.....if children and their parents like it, then it would be big $,$$$,$$$.$$ money from a world-wide market..... smile:devil:

I think a minimal pay-per-view charge (maybe something like $0.25 per view) would work well too.....you know how kids are.....they want to see the same one over and over again.....so it would add up pretty quickly, eh??? smile:devil:

yes, the trouble is web currency, i would think. mothers are not likely to give their kids pay pal accounts. it works fine if mom or pop is viewing with the child, but that's going to be more limited. we need something better than pay pal.
