texture on a terrain. The bump comes from a small bit of parametric noise (ie not from texture channel.) The terrain itself is displaced using the FF bump map.

hi corvus,

lookin good. i particularly like terrain #3 with the green lichen/moss. but, what i like most about that one isnt the rock, it's the lichen/moss. you said something was still missing about all this. i think you're right. i think you're in the same class i was in during dilla's 'noise lab'. look at the part of that thread where dilla is talking about that certain something which says the image came from a filter, where it has that tell-tale look about it that gives it away as not real. it helped me get my rock better.
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Yeah, well ... I'm not sure how to fix it at this point. If / when the filter is accepted, I'd appreciate any specific tips you might have. That's a good thread, but I wish there were more examples to look at.

Which rock is that, exactly? Is that a filter I can take a look at?

I think that one thing would help to make rocks look better would be to give them stress fractures - where the rocks are crushed into small areas.

Another thing that would be good would be slight rotation of the 'chunks'.

well, i wasnt referring to any one rock filter. i was referring to the tips given in that thread. there are a lot of rock filters in the library. you can look at mine, but i'm not sure mine are the best out there. just have a look through the 'stone' filters.

also, dont take my commnents here as gospel. your filter does look good and is worthy of submission. and my opinion is only one of many. in fact, do notice that crapadilla did say 'Very noice!' smile:)
