I spent last night and most of today on a new method of generating the clouds of an atmosphere. This emulates the fractal range of real clouds (seen from space) a bit better, with a little extra work on the storms, which were clearing out most of the clouds in the vortices. Now they have shield clouds like real tropical storms and hurricanes.

I'm working on a new terrestrial filter, based on my spherical noise, and stumbled into making a nice texture for a Mars-like world. So, I took a break to render it out and finish it in Photoshop as a test render. Once that's posted, I'm back to work!

I'm still on my planet building kick. Lately, I've been tinkering with how to complete the world inside FF. Now that I've come up with a few approaches to doing planetary clouds, and remapping textures to a hemisphere, I'm able to do most of what I wanted. I'm still dealing with a few issues in my most recent clouds and distortions in my hemispherical transform, but this is still more than I've gotten out of FF for a while.

I killed a few hours pursuing a solution for a problem I finally realized could not be solved without 3D. Ah well. At least I learned a few new things and fixed a few problems that slipped past me. Here's a corrected version of my Earth Lab:

It's been a while since I visited this thread, and more than a few filters have been finished and submitted to the FF Library without any mention here. I dug up this thread to post images fr om my latest project, but they're all rendered at 600x600px which means I can't just use image links to show them all in one post. Le sigh.

Well, I'll post one render to whet your appetite and link to my ArtStation post wh ere you can see a material set and remaining eight presets. The post contains my comments on the project, so I'll skip that, too.

For the most part, Cliff Lab is ready to submit. I just tend to wait a couple of days to do more testing, seeing what problems might emerge as I shuffle through Next Variants. Honestly, I end up doing more work on a filter once I start making presets for the submission than I usually put in getting it built, initially. I've had too many filters that needed updates before they were even visible in the library. It's much easier to post some WIP stuff and do a bit of playing with a filter before putting it into the submit queue. So, you will probably see it in a few more days, if you're interested.

I have to kill time while waiting on rendering, so I might as well add the proofs of the final eight Cliff Lab presets.

That was preset 02. Here is number 3...

...oh, never mind. It exceeds the 1MB limit. Well, normally I'd convert them to JPG, but I haven't gotten around to replacing Photoshop since my old laptop died and I got a new one. I intended to give in and subscribe to get the current version, but wasn't doing enough art to justify the cost of all the apps I wanted. The package deal seemed worth it, if you're actually going to be using it. Guess it's time to reconsider.

Well, I sort of caught up on most of my work-in-progress filters and submitted them without previewing them here. Not that there's a lot of traffic on the forums these days. I'm sure no one was all that concerned. That said, once I was free to experiment a bit, I ended up creating a potential sequel to Cliff Lab. It uses a couple of Smudge components, so it's got a 10-15 min lag to start rendering. I don't know if the Library will accept it, submitted as is. Even so, I'll finish up and add presets, then give it a shot.

Here's a peek, or you can see the WIP post on my ArtStation page.

Hope there were no rock climbers present!!! I could see this as a great background to some more involved work of art.

Have a nice trip! See ya next fall! LOL

Yep. That's exactly what I was expecting to do with it, as soon as I have something like Photoshop available.

How serendipitous! I popped in to share previews of Atmosphere Lab and saw that an early prototype was the subject of my last post to this thread. These are tests of the first ten presets.

I think there are a few changes I might make, another test series, and then I'll send it in to the Library.

(Only after the posts did I realize the "last" post I saw was just the bottom of the first page. My bad!)
