Apply them to either your images or restriction-free stock images.....save at high res so they print photo quality in enlargements.....have them printed at whatever sizes (suggest cybachrome because superior color and richness if you can afford it).....and get enough together to join either an art show or go to galleries and sell by commission. It's all in the composition (of course) and quality of print. That's kinda how I got started making money with art. I migrated from photo over to digital.....and i'm one hell of a happy camper because of it smile:)

Oh, don't let anyone tell you that digital art doesn't sell.....because they are full of it smile;) smile:) It's the image no matter how you arrive at it.....

well, i'd been meaning to send you and email regarding this, steve. i've got some nice images and i've printed some stuff at home, but my printer is a bit off here and there at times and i always wanted to get into larger formats than 8 1/2 by 11. so, the home print stuff is ok, but never comes out quite as good as i see on the monitor. i've even been tempted to buy a large format printer so i could do 24 x 36's. i've no idea what cybachrome is. sounds like something i'd have to send away to have done. and that would be ok. i've looked into a few sites that do that sort of thing, mounting on canvas, giclee and so on, but have never done it. so, i'm a complete novice when it comes to selling. i've also got at least one format i do at home that NO ONE else is doing, which looks pretty damn cool, but again, i'm limited to smaller formats, currently.

and there are just almost zero outlets around here for selling this sort of thing. no galleries, no art shows, not even a frame shop, except for one about 30 or 40 miles from here.

and yeah, i never listen to critics, 'art purists/experts' and that sort. lol. that's a road to oblivion if there ever was one smile:D

Well first, I would suggest taking a trip to the nearest high-end photo printing shop and see first hand what they can do with digital images. Ask to see some samples of Cybachrome prints (color printing process from slide film.....so you would have your digital image shot onto slide film first).....guarranteed your jaw will hit the floor when you see a sample of it in comparison to regular prints of the same image....

It does take an initial investment to get going.....printing, matting, framing, etc.....but pays off if you start selling.....so bounce your images off some artists and galleries first to see what they might be interested in to sell. My cardinal rule #1; never show your works online.....will zap the "fine art" right out of them and drastically devaluate them down close to clipart.....which is why you don't see alot of successful online fine artists.....gotta do it in person and can't be seen online to get the big $$$......

I've actually sold a few works that I created with Volde's and one of your monsters in combination with some of my own filters.....

oh, now that's interesting. i've heard you mention a bit about this before, but never quite got how important this was to you. what a peculiar thing. you would think the natural place for advertising your work would be the internet. but, i suppose there are a lot of reasons for this not being so. too easy for others to make duplicates and thus loses the 'rare, one of a kind' aspect. lower resolutions, possibly poorer lighting and lack of an actual 3d, analog image... yeah, i can sort of see this. fascinating.

you used my monster?! how could you use my monster when it's not released? lol. i do hope you mean 'the beast' or 'the monster's monster' or one of the offshots of 'the monster'. otherwise i'm going to have to change the locks on my house smile;)

ok, just looked this up:
Quote
Cibachrome, now called Ilfochrome is a direct printing method from transparency. It is the very best in photographic processing, vivid color and 75+ year longevity. I find it highly doubtful that we will see an inkjet printer match the quality, color saturation and longevity of an Ilfochrome for some time, I would say the closest would be a hexachrome printer using UV inks with the color quality of Dye based inks, a tough job for any printer available on the market today.

so, that pretty much bears out what you were saying. cool smile:)

Confusy smile:dgrin: (from "excusy" smile:D ) LOL.... Serioiusly, what do mean???

Oh, by the way.....I meant the "don't post anything online" stuff strictly for selling one-of-a-kind fine art. I think that posting works online just to show your talents and sell your artistic/creative services is a very good idea.....

I'm actually surprised that more graphics employers don't come on here looking to hire someone to create custom filters for them smile:devil:

well, a run number would be like limited edition. this is number 527 of 1000. after we hit 1000, the mold is destroyed (or filter or art piece).

yeah, i would think you could post web pages that showed style to advertise yourself but announce that those are NOT for sale. and then solicit custom work based on the style.

hehe, thought you'd get a kick out of that. actually, most renders are in the under 20 seconds category. a lot of this stuff is just branched on switches. keeps the render times down.

what i like about a multi-filter is that if you set up your branches/legs correctly, you can randomize and come up with something pretty cool about 50% of the time. i then just write that down with a preset. makes for one hell of a 'library' all in one filter. and then, i'll also use multi-blend to bring various branches into each other for blending. saves writing 5000 new filters.

the drawback is the control list. i included that part in the screenshot on purpose and that's actually only part of it, albeit the larger part. i can control what amounts to 5000 filters with just those controls, but, it takes some 'taming' and learning and some careful organization. but one control may control 50 different branches/legs/effects. so, one opacity control may be linked into 30 or more blend components. but because only one branch is ever active, only one blend is ever effectively active. thus, it can be a bit cumbersome when trying to figure out what controls are active in any given effect.

i started making multi-filters back in the beta days. this was when we still only had 10 controls max showing in the GUI. hehe, i figured out a way around that to some extent, but couldnt totally control things. a lot of what happened in the GUI when i randomized was in the background with no control showing for it. drove me nuts and consequently, i drove vlad nuts by bugging him to lift the 10 control limit smile:) i think he still hates me for that one smile:D

well, pretty much what i do here, photo art. not sure that qualifies as 'fine art', but photo art is what i mostly do, photos artified.

i do some retouching and a fair amount of photo restoration, but that i dont expect to reproduce in larger formats or need the cibachrome for. i also do photo manipulation, mostly for humor's sake.

so, restorations and photo art are what i'm mostly doing, with photo art being where i'd be interested in selling a bit if i could.

have you ever done any giclee?
