emme - thank you very much for your generosity and AMAZING skills with Filter Forge! Sharing filters/experiments/snippets may not seem like much to YOU, but to those of us who would never in a million years be able to come up with such beauty, THANK YOU! Your stuff here is GROUNDBREAKING! Some of the effects you are generating, I am sure, far exceed any of the expectations of the Filter Forge development team!
Any and all the crumbs you throw us, no matter how insignificant you may think they are, for the rest us are like finding a winning lottery ticket on the ground.
I don't know if there is some way to encourage you to keep creating/keep sharing, but I, for one, am willing to put my money where my mouth is - is there some way to donate money to you? Even if it just buys you coffee, video card upgrade, whatever, I'd sure be willing to buy in at a premium level for access to some more of your stuff! Even if you think it is 'rough' or whatever, the results are STUNNING! Slow? Don't care! I would be willing to PAY YOU to be a beta tester for you! (I'm very, VERY serious!)
For example, my faves:
celestial 02, 05, 07, 08 (TAKE MY MONEY!!!)
terrain dof 01 and 02 - more cool than you can possibly know! (TAKE MORE OF MY MONEY!)

Thank you Eric, your words are appreciated!
I will keep experimenting and sharing my work here for the joy of doing it. I do wish there was an official marketplace for selling filters - I think that would motivate people (including me) to share more high quality filters. It takes a different mindset and a lot of extra work to make filters user friendly - something many of these experimental filters are not.
This made me think I should maybe start another thread for sharing snippets, tips, tricks and techniques.
And yes, everything here (so far) is generated in Filter Forge, no external sources.
I also sent you an email.

These are absolutely fantastic!
In regards to market place, you have Gumroad! I’ve put HDRIs there personally and it’s a pretty nice place to open a micro store. I’d also be glad to dump some cash for filters like these, you really spent some time and they deserve something in return.

Gumroad looks interesting, I'll consider setting up a store there.
GMM or other mods - would it be ok for me to promote such a store here?

Thanks! Yeah, 128 iterations with a bunch of shapes rotating around different pivot points. Also for an interesting touch, math log was used to get a logarithmic color response.

As for what I know, selling the results of the filters is fine.
Selling the filters is another matter.
If everybody start selling the filters, the problems are two :
1. Nobody will post filters in the library anymore.
If they can get some money for the filters, why posting them for free?
2. Filter Forge company should get a fee on them.
One of the selling points of FF is that there is plenty of filters we can download without paying even one cent more than what is required for the program.
The sales of the program would surely drop down if we had to pay for downloading the filters.
I have over 300 filters in the library. I could get a good money even if the price for every download was only 1 cent. But, looking from the side of the people who buy the program, I don't think it is fair to pay for the program and then to pay again for the filters.

Well, this is why I said I wish there was an official marketplace. This could be integrated into the current filter library or created as a separate store.
Filter Forge would get a cut and the quality of filters would go up. Sure, the number of free filters might go down, but I would be happy to trade a bit of quantity for quality. There's already over 12000 free filters in the library - those would still be there.
While high quantity for free is attractive for a certain audience, high quality for a price will attract more pro customers who are willing to put the money in. I feel like this line could be more balanced. Having an incentive to keep the quality high could really help the product.

Yes, it may be.
Some professional people would become interested to make good filters if they got some money.
I even think that many people already have very beautiful filters in their FF, but they don't share them.
It is anyway a complex matter.
For example, now, if we post a filter, anybody can use it as a base to make a slightly different filter and post it in the library.
All this works because the filters are free.
But guess what would happen if instead we put on sale a filter and somebody else does few changes and re-posts it free.
Copyright and sales problems would came up. Maybe you and I would not care of it.
But many other people become very unreasonable when talking of money and they would start complaining of it.
In short time we would probably reach the point that the filters we buy cannot be opened with the editor, otherwise anybody can copy them.
This would kill FF original idea of being a program for creating and sharing filters.
Anyway, it is not up to me deciding.
And my opinion can be completely wrong.

You are 100% right. Let's not let the greedies take over this site and turn it into what Flickr has become. Don't step on a dead dogma. It'll turn up again and bite you!

Yes, those are good points, Ramlyn. We would have to rely on good will, or have a separate commercial filter format. Perhaps that wouldn't work too well.
It's just a weird situation where we can sell the generated images, but the only way to share filters is to give them away for free - even though I feel the filters are way more valuable.

Thanks PayPaul.
1. I have shared many filters here.
2. I prefer not to share unfinished filters, because they're not well designed.
3. It takes a lot of work to finish them and I'd rather spend time creating new things.
If you want to know anything in specific about a filter - ask away, I'm happy to break it down. I hope this makes sense.

Yeah, the first one is bomber + loop. And yes, it did take about 30 mins to render. The second one is just slices of 3d perlin in a loop. The nice thing is that these can be rotated 360 degrees around the y-axis so a "true" stereo pair can be generated from 2 different angles.

As always, very nice work. I was looking at some earlier discussions on whether or not to release filters, I am considering stopping releasing filters, for many reasons:
1) Keeping my work as a unique, personal kind of thing.
2) The current state of FF8, it is definitely slower than FF7 on the Mac, and the Windows versions has some odd issues that still have not been worked out. What I am saying: it seems Filter Forge as a company is in a "funk" and not supporting the product like they used to.
3) Personally I feel a certain lack of recognition for my support of Filter Forge, I only have 1 Editor's Pick, and have wondered why that is, are my filters that bad, or do I not fit the FF "mystique". This could be my own ego, perhaps my filters are crap, but I am getting tired of it, FF does not not display my 1 EP in the Featured thumbnails, so I figure I am not respected here at FF.
Any thoughts you might have would be appreciated? Math meets art meets psychedelia.

Thanks. Some thoughts,
I don't want to discourage anyone from releasing filters. The filter library is a great resource, especially for new users. It's good to see new filters still popping up - keeps the thing alive.
I wouldn't worry too much about EPs and such. Perhaps EPs are generally given to visually flashy filters that are more marketable. This doesn't mean other styles of filters aren't just as valuable to the users. Your filters have tens of thousands of downloads so they are definitely appreciated by the people.
If you want to try a new approach, you can focus on creating interesting images and to not worry about releasing filters. For me, this gives more creative freedom. You can always release the filter afterwards if you so decide.
I'm still using FF7 so I can't comment on the state of FF8, but that doesn't sound great - hopefully they can get it fixed.
I do agree the energy put into FF development and support seems to have been decreasing over the years. I hope this means more work is being put into their next project - but obviously I have no idea.

Good thoughts on your part. Thanks for the mention of the number of downloads, obviously some people find my filters as useful. I have a couple of filters in the “queue” and will work on them for a while before releasing them. Or not Math meets art meets psychedelia.
