Yeah! Insert fire related cliches here!
So heres my first attempt at a flame generator, im trying a different approach to generating a filter here, since before i was relying heavily on the 3D feel and lighting that the surface filter provides. Mainly curves, blends, alphas, distortion, and a lonely perlin noise for the smoke. I plan to tweak this quite a bit, but heres a WIP. credit to uberzev and voldemort for the idea ![]() ![]() |

I definatly like the direction yours is goint alot better then mine so far- though just as a suggestion you might take a nother noise and soften and break up that smoke alittle more it looks way to heavy in my opinion You might also add som thin whisps with a perlinn noise set to electrick for those bright whips -for a second smoke choice --Ive been trying to blend a perlin noise -set ghost with a perlin noise -set electric for that smoke like you see off the end of a ciggarete- but for billowing smoke I think you need to vary your oppacity a little more. Those Flames look great though I love the blend you did with them

Yeah the smoke was added last minute before i was too tired to do anymore work on it. Im definitely going to tighten up the smoke effect. The fire could use some tuning too. i need to narrow down whats going to control the intensity and height of the flames, because as it stands there are multiple ways to effect it.
Thanks for the feedback ![]() |

Cool, I mean hot..Nice work..By the way I don't think that Life preserver would work to good on the water when its on fire...

Nonsense. It's still a perfectly suitable life preserver. It just would become less and less effective the longer you held on to it.

so now you just need a filter that generates peasants... and countryside
![]() nice work, btw Are you having the same offset issue im having? because I see the fire wrapping around the top. Or are you even using offset? Do tell! |

Richard Bartlett |
Yeah, I'm using offset and yes it is wrapping around. But that won't be an issue by the time I submit.

Okay, I've submitted a fairly polished version.
I've added a time slider so you can make animated sequences albeit it would take quite some time since you'd have to export each frame manually. Such a travesty what happened to poor Engram's cottage... ![]() |

a time slider? i'm assuming here this is in FF and if so, i'm also assuming you're talking about a frame stepper as if time were passing, yes? no? very cool, btw! craig If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Gah, im totally getting owned here by you two. Damn if i had some free time i could keep working on my filter. Building levels in Unreal 2 engine while simultaneously trying to learn what little i can in the Unreal 3 engine on top of all the other school projects i have is taxing
![]() So my final entry will probably be a bit later, around Christmas. Anyway, nice work you guys ![]() |

Im not so sure about the owned part they have nailed the flames and even burnt edges now preaty good But I like the fact your trying to incorporate another important aspect of fire----smoke also no entries so far have made blue or white hot flames there are still alot of elements to be explored for instance what about deliberate angular flames--embers etc keep at it Ive seen the rest of your work nothing says you cant whip out something as terific.. one thing Im trying to focus on that I havnt seen in there's is rougher flames the kind that is far more turbulent in nature while also allowing the user to choose clean flowing flames like theese- I will say that Rich's lighting is fantastic and really looks hot but I love Crapidillas burnt edges and I see your smoke looking nice the only drawback with your that I see is the highlighted area is to large and solid needs broken up more --keep that core looking hot but use a soft tone-curve to alter its coloration just slightly

john, you might also add some more reds in there. i tried one a while back like you did and got nowhere near as good.
i think there's a lot of room for more of these too. what about doing this in perspective, like combined with the landscape filter? seeing a burning grass fire from an elevated angle would be a good one. let's see...set alpha mixed with landscape and some of john's fire or richard's edges fire... hmmmm.... and adding in a multiblend.... and btw, richard, very well done! that burning house really looks good! i'll have to see crapadilla's set on an image, but looks good also! If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Btw If anyone is currious this is a great way to creat a smoke billow
Sad thing is I cant seem to get the blends the way I want them all the individual components look great but combined ![]() Here is a thumbnail leading to a larger version of the smoke billow in case its down ever ill include an uploaded version to but the quality of this screenshot is poor so If the thumbailed one to imageshack is working it will give you a better look ![]() ![]() lets all whine for a wine port |

I am quite happy with transparencies so far, but there is still a problem with the whitepoint methinks, and the flames could use more detailed turbulence. absolutely, uber. very lifelike.
and i can already see uses for it. add a little set alpha so that one could see through the flame and put something behind it and voila'! or, you could use a blend mode with it. that shld work also. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

With some of these fiery accomplishments, it becomes less compelling to purchase other fire-simulating texture packages on the market when Filter Forge can have it so competently licked!
