Ok, so my guess was correct, it is in fact possible to generate a smooth animation by manipulating certain controls of a filter.
Here is my first test, where i simply incremented the angle of a distortion control on a really fast rendering filter. The file is small(1.8M), and AFAIK, File Factory isn't going around inserting spyware/virus into uploaded files, and neither am I ![]() So check it out, ill see what else i can come up with in a reasonable time frame. When you scroll down you should see this text
(Download for free with FileFactory Basic) Just click that and it should take you to the downloading process. You don't need to register to download. Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times! |

yeah sorry bout the user un-friendliness of the demo, but putting it on Youtube seemed
kinda overkill, and i have no idea how to do imbedded players in posts. I guess i could have made it an animated gif... but eh |

Hey guys, can I suggest Google Pages for small file hosting? They give you 100 megs ad free and you can link directly to the file.

Thanks uber, looks great. As for FileFactory, they even state that they pay for the service with ads so im not surprised its got popups. i have a blocker so i never saw them, sorry if i spammed anyones computer up.

yeah, i was going to put google's toolbar with popup blocker back on my machine until i read their end user license agreement (eula). and i havent yet installed service pack 2 after all my computer troubles. so, if anyone knows of a good popup blocker that doesnt insist on 'calling home', i'd be interested.

Kraellin, If you upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer or use FireFox you should have sufficient Pop-Up Blocking built in.

i had heard i.e. 7 was fairly decent. might give it a shot. do you have it, uberzev and do you like it?
i actually have firefox. dont really like it. i used to use mozilla and liked that. but i dont think mozilla had built-in popup blocking. i think i used the older google toolbar with that one. (and no, i dont mean mozilla firefox. i mean plain, old mozilla, firefox's predecessor.) If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

No I don't have it but my dad does. They sort of messed with the interface so it takes some time getting used to. The security is said to be greatly impoved.
I don't know why you don't like Firefox though. Its great. ![]() |

uberzev,
thanks. i really dont know why i dont really like firefox either. i love tabbed browsing. there's just something sugar coated about it that strikes me oddly. not even sure i can pinpoint it. it's just one of those things that when you see it, you know you either like it or dont, but i'd be hard put to say why. i guess it's sort of like the difference between real wood and those imitation veneer things ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

John,
How did you make the images into an animated movie? Are there any good programs to use? (I tried Windows Movie Maker -- but the program keeps crashing, and I couldn't figure out how to put jpegs in at a duration of less that 0.13 seconds.) |

Well, i actually did it in a few parts, and depending on your access to programs such as 3D Studio MAX and Adobe After Effects (school is nice for that), YMMV.
I brought my saved images into Max as targas and slapped them onto a simple cube, then had Max render the frame sequence out as jpegs. Then i opened a new project in After Effects and compiled those jpegs having them output at a standard 24 FPS, into a Quicktime movie with Sorenson-3 compression. i will honestly say i don't know exactly why one would choose Sorenson-3 but i do know it keeps the file size really small, which is good. I suppose you could just skip all that mess and go directly to After Effects to compile them. If you lack that, i believe there is a 30 free trial of Flash 8 on the Adobe website. Since i have never used Windows Movie Maker i would not be able to honestly tell you how to trick it into doing what i think your trying to do, but from the looks of the overview i read online the program is not really made for compiling animation frames. Anyway, the above process might not be the most efficient, but i know that it works. Other options might be brought to light by some of the other forumers..... i hope you can get this solved, id love to see what you put together ![]() |

Uberzev, rats, I only have Paint Shop Pro...
![]() Thanks for the info, John. After Effects looks fun (and expensive). I only started my "animation" but didn't get far, after realizing I needed a program to put the pictures into a movie. It was going to be taking a modified "liquid chocolate" filter (by Sjeiti) where I'm manipulating the stretch and angle parameters on the first two perlin noise components and then also manipulating some offset changes (with offset components that I added after the perlin noises). The short animation test looked warpy-liquid-like -- but then WindowsMovieMaker crashed... |

dont use movie maker or movie maker 2. get movie maker 3. shld be a free download from microsoft.
and, psp has animation shop 3, which might be a free download from corel to registered users. i got it with psp 9 as part of the package. you might also try something like camstudio or camtasia, which, if i remember correctly, are screen capture recorders. i forget what format they capture into but are commonly used for folks writing tutorials in photoshop and psp. it's like taking a video recording of what you're doing in ps or psp. and i believe camstudio is free from sourceforge. Kraellin,
Thanks for the info! Unfortunately I think Animation Shop 3 isn't free with PSP X (which is the version I have). I don't know why, but I just read that it's only free for the earlier versions -- which is kind of dumb in my opinion. ![]() ![]() Anyway, I'll have to check out that Movie Maker 3... (I'm not sure if those camstudio/camtasia programs would work for what I want, but I'll look into that too.) I may just buy that AS3 program or something similar -- it's just I sort of need to be judicious with my meager income... |

yes, i noticed when Corel bought out JASC, that they dropped animation shop 3 from the cd. a bit odd if you ask me. i dont think Corel has any other animation program. you'd think they'd keep that in there for the extra perk.
have a look around on the web, ssamm. i used to go hunting for .gif animation programs years ago and i know there are still some out there for a tight budgets. and have a look around on sourceforge.net. that's one remarkable free software site. i had some stuff on other harddrives too. if i get those restored to my system i'll see what i've got and post a note. oh, and i think movie maker 3 is now called 'photostory 3' on microsoft. shld still be free but you might need the .net network stuff installed to download and run it. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

ssamm,
yes, frame by frame is a bit of a pain. i use animation shop 3 and since it's 'hooked' into psp, it's a bit easier, i can export a layered image directly into an animation within animation shop and have it render each layer as a separate frame. makes it somewhat easier. but, you're probably going to find almost any program that does flash or animaations or slides is going to be a lot more lengthy than a single frame editor ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
