Yup, woodworms do art too...
Just experimenting with this one here. I think it looks interesting enough to make into a polished filter...

Yeah, I think pic #3 is almost there....maybe deeper random worm/termite trails to stand out more....like you see under the bark of a rotted tree....

No.3 has got the maximum number of sculpt layers and I exaggerated the height quite a bit to test how eroded and rotten the wood look could get.

The weathered-away effect is excellent
Pic #4 has a sawdust effect that is working too....
I think that adding the weathered look of pic #3, sawdust of pic #4, and the worm/termite trails would have it..... Steve

#3 actually looks like rough-carved wood to me and i agree, it's the best of the first three. i also like #4. and i agree, well worth finishing. it actually raises another texture to mind that i havent seen done yet, rotten wood or rotting, decaying wood and other things. lots of room there for some textures.
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

i see it about 50% as wormwood and 50% as rough-cut carvings. a lot of those nicks and cuts and gouges look exactly like that, carver's nicks and cuts and gouges. wormwood has holes and meandering trails. so, i think it's a great look, but maybe wrongly named at this point. so, i'd go with more of a 'rough-cut wood' name than the worm thing. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

I'd suggest opening the monitor and giving the inside of the tube a good rub first. Otherwise, some worms might escape... Oh wait, do you have an LCD? In that case I'd suggest loading up an HDRI to burn them all to hell...
