2 1/2 hours bored & sober later. This one may have to be dedicated to our old filter-making-machine buddy volde, haven't seen him around lately, but he was always a mutated tiling mastermind.

Hwoah! That's an incredible effect, it reminds me of the refraction you get with some lights on cars and glass, like those distinctive Mercedes circular lights -- nice! -Zephos

Thanks Zeph, something I stumbled upon last night, which has probably been done to death in the archives, but I'll try and put a slight twist on it if I can.

----I doubled up a couple of the internals. There's still not a ton of control in a way, but it's looking pretty twisted, so maybe I better stop adding to it. 25% quality renders of that same rose pic from the glass grid filter examples.

I think that you are right.....starting to loose the glass quality.....but still very viable in other regards 'as-is'...... Steve

Naw, it still has the glassy looking quality, ya just can't tell very well with the dark flower background is all. About all I added besides doubling up some internals for more mayhem, is a *Mix Mode* control, that flips between the two nearly indentical sets of controls, so you can get more angled, or more squared, psycho tiles. That, and adjusted the offset modules wiring some.

That sounds like it would look pretty cool.....
off topic.....I was thinking about possible mods to your "Metal Melt" filter.....different geometric configurations to the larger size bars.....like circular, triangular, thicker bars with alternative textures, random organic metal configurations something like from my "heavayMetal", etc.....and maybe more of a solid metal and chrome effect to the image and taking out the extra blur beyond what is needed for the metallic/chrome texture..... This is your brainchild, so I wouldn't touch it.....but I was wondering if you had thought of expanding upon that idea??? I really think that you have ideas worth pursuing in that one.....and I, for one, would certainly use it..... Steve

----Well, square-circle bars would be easy enough I guess, and the thickness of the bars could be added. No idea about triangular bars, I forget if there's a kaleidescope in it, if so then maybe other shapes could be done, if not, then triangles are beyond me. I'll see if I can add the square-circle controls, and bar width controls though. If that works out, I'll get it submitted tonight or tomorrow.
----I changed the Decomposite filter. I took out some stuff, but, I was able to get a control for horizontal-vertical tiling going on, so in a way it's changed the look a bit, but it has more control now, and I'll always take control over random lucky-ness eh.

Excellent!!! I really think you stepped into it with your "random lucky-ness" on this one Kraellin, can I get an "Amen" LOL.... Steve

----O.k., I couldn't seem to get very far on the Metal Grid Melt filter really, (without risking changing it's overall look dramatically, which I already did with the Decomposite one, in trade for more control). I added some more details to adjust, but it's pretty subtle overall really, which goes both ways. The original presets are not changed much, but you can have finer control over some parts, just nothing radical is all. You may have to pop'er open and make any further modifications you want for personal use, I'm probably done with this one after this minor update, unless I learn some new threshold/metallic techniques in the future sometime.
----The "good news" is, as seen below, even though it's practically the same thing only 2-D, (very few internal changes really), I'ma go ahead and submit filter as seen below also, "Ghost Grid", along with the metal Grid Melt filter update.

That's a really cool effect!!! I have a similar "Ghosting" filter, but without the neat twists of separation and mesh effect. Not to pile suggestions onto your excellent work, but I was wondering what effect my filter would have plugged into this.....maybe a completely different effect that spreads a different ghosting effect all the way to the outer edges.....with the mesh peeking in and out of it or something like that.....
You and I are definitely on the same wavelength, but your skills are much more advanced than mine. I'm trying to catch up Steve

----Well, the threshold is what's keeping it from going out to the edges, and also why it melts through in different areas. You might try expanding on the threshold stuff, I've been meaning to explore other ways of getting more mileage out of the threshold component myself. I just haven't had time to yet, too busy using it for what I have learned so far eh.

that last pic and the one before that, reminds me of needlepoint. that mesh with that flower looks a lot like that. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

*Mesh* is a good word to describe the look when the grid detail is set to 40-50 and above. I put in seperate blurs with controls, and more layering internally. It should be done and submitted tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for looking.

Decomposite has been submitted (04-26-2007). It has been changed slightly from the example images shown, so that you have control over whether you want horizontal, or vertical distorted frames. And you can lighten/darken the output image now, to better balance the colors back to their normal values.
