Going through some filters that I wanted to do I found one that I was looking for. I found an old chalk drawing that I did years ago and created a filter out of it..I took a photo of the drawing here...

Funny thing is I have been working with a chalk filter as well, what with being a teacher and all, but I have to say I like your approach better. It is so hard to reproduce realistic looking chalk effects, but you are well on your way. Give us updates as you progress.

Always will.. smile:)
First order is getting down the B/W and getting that to look good with the example. Once that is good I will submit that as one filter. Then comes the colors which will be a little different..I know on that I will be using the Lab component..Otherwise its
back to the Lab... smile:D

i like the edge finding on that, CF. seems a bit dark overall, both the original and the filter image. but, that just might be my monitor gamma settings. i havent calibrated in a while.

images must have a file size of 250k or less and must be .gif, .png, .jpg or one other, i think...maybe two others. you can see what file types are allowed by starting the upload process and when you get the browser window open, just click on the file type field and you can see the types allowed there.

you also cant just post the image by itself. you have to include some text and that text cant be the same image to image.

ah, you found it. ok smile:)

I still need to give it that spread out look rather than just smooth lines in parts.
But heres the recipe so far if anyone wants to mess with it.
It consists of 3 filters

Add Grain
http://www.filterforge.com/filters/3478.html

Grey Study
http://www.filterforge.com/filters/3289.html

Look for the Extraction filter on this thread.
http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...essage3006

Connect the "Grey Study" to the "extraction" filter. Then connect that to the "Add Grain" like it was an image. smile:) smile:)

Nope not the monitor the images are dark. I have not yet put in anything for controlling Brightness/Contrast.

Would've been funny if we finished at the same time and submitted at the same time and have the same name...hehe smile:D
If you want to mess with the filters that I posted and incorporate them please do. Or change them thats cool also..I had one the Neon Sidewalk Chalk but it looks good on text but I am still not liking the images from that one...

Ohhhh yeah, that's what I am talking about. Both are extremely accurate to what a real chalk board looks like! Very very cool.

Question:
What features will your chalk board filter contain?

Requests:
Ability to change the color of the chalk and the board
Ability to add old chalk smudges on the blackboard
Ability to particially erase some of the picture.

Best chalk effect I have seen thus far, I am scrapping my attempts and letting you take it all the way. smile:)

Well the features that I was going to include in this one are the requests that you have.. smile:)
Still need to work on the last two that you have but here is a pict of where the background and chalk colors can be changed..

sorry meant to comment on hwo great this one is looking but been obseesed with my own project of getting a stepped tile to work properly
this is really an awesome filter I can see a lot of use for it

though I think you should add the option for some perlin smears in the background to make it look more like an old used chalkboard--you know how they have that hazy cloud on them

I love your default with out the scratches and smears but think it would be appealing for some photos to add the background

really sharp filter btw

I know I will use this filter a tone! I mean a TON. I am a teacher, and a chalk board filter will go miles in creating a fun class website, and art. AWESOME!!!!

One quick request ontop of the other request, can you do a multi-color option so that you could get a rough color chalk drawing, maybe somewhat reminiscent of ink sketch for different stroke angles, that would be really really cool.

smile:D smile:loveff:
Will have to post pictures of ways you use this if you do..Would be interesting..

I was going to do a multi-color but in this version it will be limited to the background and the chalk color. Just because there is a lot of things going on with it already and I wanted to stay with those for now..So the next version will be multi-color and also the whole image....But there is another art type in this first version. I don't know what it is but it looks cool..

excellent, CF.

i'd seriously consider leaving the anti-aliasing turned off when you submit. i also dont think you need to have seamless turned on since this has an image comp in it.
