Version #1 is very cool. If you could keep the filter so it does variations on that instead of distortions it would be a very cool thing.

yup, i was gonna say the same thing as rawn. keep the original premise and expand on it and you've got a great grill/vent cover filter.... or, if you really wanted to get clever with it (and this was one i was going to attempt at some point...way down the road), wrought iron!
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

I'm with Rawn and Kraellin. "Wrought Iron" seems to be a very good theme to pursue here. Your very first image immediately reminded me of wrought iron balustrades...

Currently the distortion can be bypassed / not applied, so that's not a problem.
I kinda like the V 3 it reminds me of an Escher pattern.
Could you post a link? I would like to look at it and steer my efforts in another direction since "that" has already been covered. It does some pretty cool things without distortion. I added the dropshadow. and here are some more. Thanks!  |

The Wought Iron would be do able. I would just need to come up with a suitable texture. Would users want to be able to "turn off" the black background(make it transparent), or would that be a useless feature?

I think turning off the black would definatly be useful.
I personally would not bloat the filter with the distortion, since there are a few like that allready. This style is strong enough to hold its own. Rawn |

Hey David, It looks like brushed metal to me.....
I agree, it would also look good in wrought iron or painted metal too. If you're thinking about that direction, try plugging in the "Iron Age" or my "PaintedMetal" filter..... Nice work on the patterns.....maybe "Designer Metal Patterns - Circular" or something like that  Steve

well, the patterns are quite cool. and i do like the new ones, especially that layered look. and some of those last set might be useful, too. but that first one in the first set, is USEFUL!

Understand. I tried to get the link but FF is locking up on me. I'll get the link when I can... however you are fine now with the new set of samples. Crossing my fingers this post goes thru... In fact it's looking good! Beautiful filter!

Thanks all for the great comments!
I got the shadows the way I want them, and they and the background can be independently turned off. I think I will deep 6 the distortion, and work up some texture. V 10  |

Same as V 10, but changed bar roundness to "0" turned off shadows turned on background. It definitely needs texture.

Hmmm, you could put it under Techno, Patterns, Misc, Creative... a lot of help I am, huh 
I could use this with a switch to turn the transparency on/off when needed too. Great idea Redcap  ~Foxxee~

it's a pattern filter, though, if you leave the distortion in, you could put it there too. dont worry, the admin overseeing the filters will change it if they dont like where you submit it.

Oh, they do that for you? Whew... that's good to know someone is watching over us if we mess up, hehe. I have a really difficult time trying to figure out where my filters should go too, so this relieves me of a lot of worry

david, are you saving as different versions each time you save or are you saving over the existing one with just a 'save'?
it is HIGHLY recommended you 'save as' a new version each time you save. earlier versions will not get wiped when the current one is. so, you may lose that session's work, but not everything. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

But it's all good now. It was supprising how much I remembered and the textures turned out better the second time. I submited it this afternoon.

I think I may have gotten lazy and was just doing the 'save', instead of 'save as'. When it crashed I didn't think I had done as much as I had. Fortunately I had done a few 'save as' so I still had the basic idea and didn't lose the whole thing. Lesson learned. IMPORTANT!..............
