Yes, the one I uploaded makes single flakes and tiles identical flakes on lower scales because I used the kaleidoscope for the hexagon shape.
But in real life no two snowflakes are alike. So after uploading I did away with the kaleidoscope and made the effect myself. So now the lower scale produces different flakes. But the filter is now way too slow. |

Wow, did them all with curve work.....would look excellent as wrapping paper, holiday backgrounds, and those transparent sheets people stick on the inside of their windows in winter......

I can think of half a way to make them all slightly different, but I'd still wanna use the kaleidescope in there once or twice, that's nuts without it.

Alot of work and definitely a slow filter.....but right about having them all look different.....looks generic otherwise......

I already speeded it up now. First I used Uberzevs 'any rotate' snippet. That was a bit of an overkill. Now I managed to alter Quasimondo's 'rotate 90' into a 60 degree rotation. Probably not perfectly but it looks ok.
What's taking those new filters? I want to update. Someone's at FF sick probably. |

What do you guys think?
I'm about to update but maybe it's better to post it as a new filter since the rendertime is increased with about 1200%. Plus the controls and the internals are a bit different. Or maybe I should keep tweeking untill I get the rendertime down a bit. |

i always prefer having a version one, version two instead of an updated version one. updating the version wipes out the original, which i may still want as it is.

I think the flakes stand out nicely against that color......and really goes with the theme. My first thoughts go to it being used for that high-priced fancy 5th Avenue wrapping paper with the flakes embossed on it

A slight speed up for the first one (and if this one starts out the same internally), reduce the details on the Stones component to 17, and reduce the details on the Noise Curve to 20.

Hey jffe.... I forgot about the details, normally I turn them down to 0. The filter is updated.
I also uploaded the non-kaleidoscope filter as 'Snowflakes'. If you care to try get ready to for a long wait. The snowflake form is in fact faster than the original filter, it's just the kaleidoscope workaround that is incredibly slow. |

I'm confused, I grabbed the updated snowflake filter, and it still has the kaleidescope in it. I'll keep an eye out for another update I guess. And what about the multiple flakes where each one is different, that was the most impressive part next to the part about no kaleidescope used ha-ha, I can only picture 8,000 profgrads and blends being used.

Oh no, it's not an update. As suggested, I uploaded it as a new filter called 'Snowflakes' (I'm no good with funny names).
It's probably so slow it will take a day or two to reach the FF servers. That slowness bugs me, it's really strange, when I take the real snowflake part and put it in the old kaleidoscope filter, the old filter is faster. When I get the new filter and replace the snowflake part with an image it run's ok. But when I feed the fake-kaleidoscope a noise component it takes ages. That fake-kaleidoscope may be a good one for a snippet. |

Haha... just got this in my mailbox: "Unfortunately, we cannot accept the filter Snowflakes you have submitted to the Filter Library -- the rendering takes too long."

----Owch. I guess you weren't kidding about it takng a bit of time to render eh. Maybe with V2 of FF you'll be able to make it go faster and resurrect it. ![]() jffe Filter Forger |
