Okay, I've created some new B&W filters designed to get at optimal tone depth, offer full corrective ability, and offer an extremely wide range of variant options in color to B&W conversion. I have made enhancements to the softness portion of these filters.....which should be in the filters by tomorrow morning.....

They look very nice, StevieJ. smile:)

I am also quite a fan of desaturated (and I guess even semi-desaturated) images. (Although, I occasionally also like color rich images, too).
I hope to have some time to spend experimenting with your filters soon.

On a tangent thought... the (non-blurring effect of the) filters may also be helpful for when one wants to make a selection on an image. That is, with your filters, one may be able to find an effect that better contrasts the desired selection vs. its background (for "quick selection" tools)... (?)

That's true.....I never thought it that way......

If you do....."B&W" has all conversion methods in it....."B&W 12RGB-Modes" uses conversion filtration from 12 divisions of RGB (3 - RGB with 9 - RGB Blends combined in order)....."B&W 3RGB-Manual" has full manual control over the three divided RGB filtration chanels.....and "DreamScape-B&W" is the "B&W" filter spliced into the DreamScape blur vignette concept.....

I hope you like them..... smile:)

well, like i teased you in another thread, you've been re-inspiring me to do some more b&w. actually, i dont know if it's you or that last gorgeous woman you posted that inspired smile:)

so, this is not to compete with your latest b&w filters. this is a different path. trying to add a little more depth to b&w's...

thanks, carl smile:) yes, and it's easier to make a decent filter look great with a great photo! smile:)

so, this is a bit off topic now, but once one gets some depth going, it's easy as pie to add back a bit of color for some more interesting looks...

and i hope that folks are clicking on steve's images and opening them up. they are really quite superb. the dynamic range and clarity is really amazing and what you want in a b&w. that's probably why i went in another direction, depth; why do another simple b&w when steve has it nailed. so, all that was left for me was to turn to surface types smile:)

Craig, that last one is really nice.....kinda looks like highpass with an inverse color burn.....could be something like an enhanced silhouette type of filter.....

I would be very interested in seeing what you get from surface results..... smile:devil:

As always......great work!!! smile:) smile:) smile:)

thanks, steve smile:) yes, there is a high pass in there but no inverse on the color and no burn. in fact, i'm not using any blend modes except normal. it was basically just s simple blend at the end of the rest of the b&w stuff but using a low opacity on the adding in of the color from the original image. so, it was really just an afterthought to give the filter a little more versatility.

i've really decided that the creation of texture filters and effect filters shld be done on a totally different philosophy. texture filters shld be limited in scope and controls. they are pretty much a fixed concept that needs a much narrower scope. but effect filters can have a much broader range in scope of a single filter and therefore warrant more controls. and that's where i was always clashing with vlad in the beta days and now i think i understand why. so, throwing in a touch of color on this b&w of mine isnt that unusual or odd. it's just adding a touch more creativity to things, which is what folks that use effect filters want, i think. this just makes creating effect filters much easier for me now. i dont have to re-map down to a very fine line all the controls and whatnots. i can leave things versatile and open, or at least more open than i would with a texture filter. i LIKE hitting the random button and having something a bit off show up and then tweaking it down to something nicer. this satisfies the creative end of actually using a filter as opposed to creating it. that make sense?

at any rate, i really dont want to steal your b&w thunder here. i REALLY like those results you showed on those samples! i think they are some of the best b&w work i've seen in a LONG time. like i said earlier, the contrasting and clarity just really make those images pop. just really, really good work! some of your best, in fact, and that's saying a lot! smile:)

I think the two of you have put up totally different aspects of black & white - Steve has masterly covered the classic scenaro - while craig has gone for the effect - both I think are great smile:)
