Allrighty then, you know the drill, I'll post random stuff I've come up with, you give me feedback. smile;)
First up, a surprisingly simple combo of Uberzev's Radial Blur and Any Angle Rotate filters, along with my own Difference Mask technique:

Looks cool to me..... smile8)

The only thing that I would suggest is anti-aliasing out the jagged and broken ridge reflections..... smile:)

----Or try a diff HDRI for the lighting source, as that solves those kinds of probs at least 2 out of 7 times ha-ha. Or ya might have go in and edit (up) the *Reflection Blur*.

----Ya know, I tried a very simple "difference" blend test last week, and it did NOT respond how I thought it would. Very odd. Maybe you could make a difference snippet if you have discovered something useful in that area/blend mode. smile:)

that's kinda cool lookin. would be interesting to do a ton of those with minor changes in each and make an animation of the whole.

jffe: The Snippet is already in the library, although a tweaked version is in the queue. The basic idea is that you need to run the "difference" through an invert and a Tone curve with Step (Threshold 99, smooth 1, shape -99), before it will actually be useable as Alpha/Opacity . Note: this was from the latest version, the old one still uses a smoothed Threshold.

Redcap: It basically is, only it's a more "pure" port of the Photoshop effect, using actual Zoom Blur and Twirl steps. I haven't figured out how to properly colorize before the Blend, hence the use of the Difference Mask coloring the Surface result, it looks better.

StevieJ: Would you believe I accidentally had AA turned off? Here's a sample with no reflection and AA:

Man. it's been a while since i posted anything.
's about time then. smile:D

Ok, here goes: It's a shield. A generic medieval style shield.
I'm using 2 curves to build the shape. The rivets are dynamically placed, which I'm proud of myself for figuring out how to do. Being able to do it in the first place is a by-product of the shape creation process. (mad props for ThreeDee's Get X,Y snippet here, ridiculously useful).
I'm having a hard time getting them lined up properly with the edge piece. I really need a better method for making the edge, it's not precise enough.
I'd also like to be able to calculate the average of the offset value over a given area. But that's not really necessary if i could get a better outline.
Peeling is modified from the Peeling Paint filter (because it rocks).
It's a beast to render, this preview took 14 minutes, but i've got a lot of crap running, so take that with a grain of salt.
I haven't worked on the paint designs at all, I need to add more styles, controls, and an Image- based overlay.
Still, I think it's looking pretty spiffy so far. smile:D

Whoop: Parchment.
Or, more appropriately: "Lost Paper". It's extensively modded from "Lost Letter", but it's really unique and mind-bogglingly useful.

smile:D thanks. This is actually an update to an older card frame. The rest of the frame was made before the mac version came out so those are the 500x500 px site previews.

I'm diggin' the metallic paint on the shield, I hope you're getting that rendering time down a bit. The paper is also very nice, it works well in the card. smile:)
