I have only been using FF for a couple of months but I quickly became addicted to making filters. I would like to share some of my WIP here and maybe pick up some tips on the way.
I have lots of filters in various states of completion but this is what I have recently been working on:

It looks like the frame was used but I have learned a great problem with using the frame is that it does not resize so I stayed away from the frame component.

In the next variation I tried to make the centre more raised.

The last two remind me of shields or Christmas balls.

Thanks for your comments, Steve. I found some more carpet type tiles I made. These have more flecks of color in them. I wish FF allowed the creation of folders. I am always forgetting what I have already done!

Christmas balls for sure. I think they are all pretty good .
The fun tile one has a cartoon look to it, like Steve said the fabric and carpet would get a lot of use. I love the engraved looked ones would be nice to see where you are going with them or are they at the finished stage now?
Nothing wrong with a little insanity ;)

Thanks, Beliria. I am sort of stuck with the engraved ones and this is what partly prompted me to create this thread. I'm not sure where what will happen to them yet.

well now, as one addict to another...
i like the first set. those 'medallions' could easily be useful to folks doing jewelry and so on. you might wish to check out some of the snippets in the library, particularly the sphere ones. that might give you some help in adding a curved or convex shape to the medallions, though not necessary as they are quite nice just like they are. the first two of those i really like. they have a good metallic look, a nice edge on them and a good carved (depth) look. so, i'd enjoy seeing that one in the library. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

I will check out the snippets, Craig. Thank you for the suggestion. I am still finding it difficult to control the height of things.

Yep, I will upload it. If anyone sees anything they like just let me know and I will upload the filter.

yup, those are good. i remember seeing real-world medallions like that years ago. these last two look like melted metal (solder, in this case) built up on a metal plate. really quite convincing. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

These all look good Amethyst.....Well the frame component has work-arounds you just have to find them and build your own....Check the snippets library.. Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times!

I am still working on the medallions/jewellery. I hope to have something to show soon.
Thank you for letting me know the frame component has a work around, CFandM. I am not sure what it is at the moment but I am sure it will be fun finding out.
I really wish there was a way to organise the My Filter folder. I feel like I am drowning in my filters at the moment. I have already moved hundreds to another place on my hard drive but there are still hundreds left in various states of completion.

Thank you so much for your help and encouragement in this thread everyone.
I haven't posted any more filters because I have a real problem with our previews being posted on the website without any watermarks and then other people, without even having a copy of Filter Forge, coming along and just right clicking and downloading the 'free textures' they find displayed in the libraries.
I do not mind at all that Filter Forge users can render my textures and use them as they see fit. After all, by buying FF they are supporting its development for us all which will benefit us all in the long run.
There is no guarantee that any of the filters I ever create will ever make HU especially as there are so many filters already in the library and to create anything genuinely 'new' with the limited tools we have is very, very difficult. However, what I am saying is that I do not want to be a free resource for the whole internet to just come and grab my images from the library which is what has already happened. If I wanted this I could upload to IStock or somewhere else and at least get a few cents for my efforts.
I need some time to work this all out and to do what I am happy with as this has been bothering me for a while now. I hope you all understand my decision. Thanks.

amethyst,
i think we do all understand this. i'd still love to see the filter and the guts to see how it was done. you could always post it here in the forums. and, if that's unacceptable, i'd love to have you email it to me. i wouldnt post it, but i might mod it and send you back a mod.
i think authors need their own site. i think we're going to have to take matters into our own hands on these issues. if authors were posting their filters on a separate site, which had its own eula and its own protections, i think authors might fare better. it's fine that new authors are posting to the library and such, in order to get their HU's and lifetimes, but after that, there's just no rewards and therefore no incentive to post to the library, other than just a spirit of good will and a bit of showing off, and that and a dollar will buy you a cup of coffee If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Craig, you are so sweet. Thank you for your reply which seems to understand where I was coming from when I wrote the above. I am sorry not to have replied earlier but real life somehow took over. I have lots of versions of this filter but I will hunt it out and send it to you.
I have had some time to reflect on things and have decided that I am only going to make filters for my own personal use. While I do not mind genuine Filter Forge users using my filters, I do not want my preview images to be downloaded by non-Filter Forge users so will not be submitting my filters to the library. I am not interested in selling textures either so would not be interested in any online store. However, I wish anyone who wishes to do this good luck.
Thank you for all your help, I really appreciate the help in learning how to use Filter Forge.

Craig, instead of emailing the filters I thought it was easier to just submit them to the library which is what I have done. For anyone who wants them, they should be there soon.

Well, I know I said I wasn't going to post to the library any more but a woman is allowed to change her mind, isn't she? I will just make sure that any experiments I post to the library will also be posted on as many free sites as possible and any I use in special texturing work will not be submitted. Seems like an ideal solution as I do want to improve and feedback about any filters I make is very valuable.

Thank you, Craig. It looks like the preview image of the Jewelled Orbs one got a bit messed up. I'm not sure why they change when they are tiled but the image should look more like the purple on above as I didn't envisage they would be tiled.
Just found out that I have received 2 HUs for my very first filters so thank you to everyone who has used my filters and I am pleased some people have found them useful.
I never expected to even get one so I am feeling more positive about submitting filters! I have worked so hard to learn how to make filters with Filter Forge and when people just come along and steal off the website, it is rather disheartening especially when there is no reward. I am hoping to get 3 HUs so I can get the new version of FF when it comes out. I already bought the one I am using now as I did not realise I could get an extension on the 30 days demo.
I have been working on more filters. My main interest in in fabric type textures and the first one is supposed to resemble beadwork patterns.

The next filter was also supposed to be a bead work but I don't think it looks like beads. However, I like the patterns it creates. I am not sure what to call the filter yet so any suggestions would be welcome.
